well we saw what a difference what 2 weeks off for exhibition tournament did for Monty and his crew.

Now they can devote an entire off season to it.

This is also the reason there should only be about 4 preseason games, so teams can spend more time working on their systems during training camp.

This is the play that in hindsight in a playoff game seems to make the most sense. I would love to see it tested but somewhere under a minute I bet it makes sense to get extremely aggressive and just take a slash/tripping penalty when you have the lead. not only can you eliminate a player in the process but it might cause a delay before the play gets touched. and then if it does get touched (the wise thing sometimes is for the other team to give the puck up) then you proceed to just shell up and ice the puck when you can.

Monty didn't even have this team for a full year. The biggest change he made was the culture. This team went from scared to make a mistake to full on 5-man unit hockey and blocking shots. That's quite a change to make during the season. They were 18-2-2 since the 4 Nations.

They'll fix the 6 on 5. Give Monty and crew a full off-season, camp, and season to fully implement his style.

While he's at it, tell him to fix going into a defensive shell when leading in close games during the 3rd period.

this was one of those rare occasions where just tackling Perfetti would have been the correct decision to ensure he wasn't in a dangerous position.

Many teams when down a man still lay the body and play aggressive hoping to eliminate a player for even a few seconds. But you need speed and willingness to do that. Tampa plays that way, Florida as well.

What amazed me at the Presser is that both Army and Monty acknowledged that the 5 v 6 was a known problem…not too difficult to know that when seeing the stats…but didn’t own it by saying they addressed it in season…and during their playoff prep…but that their approach or tactic was dead wrong. Sure…it’s obvious it needs to be fixed…but why wasn’t it done beforehand or better yet…what did you do to address it before game (7)? Anyone can say they’ll address it in the offseason…but perhaps if it was rectified in season…the Blues would be playing tonight instead of checking on tee-times.

With it failing 13 times before game (7) it begs the question why wasn’t it fixed before game (7)? Some very simple fixes were:

1) Teach holding the puck in the corners or along the boards instead of moving it up the boards eating clock time;

2) Flip puck to center ice or beyond before attempting any shot at the empty net or icing the puck;

3) No shooting at empty net until you hit the red-line;

4) Hard on glass for an out of zone clear when 1-3 do not exist;

5) Without puck…pressure wherever possible instead of sitting back forcing the opposing team into quick decisions;

6) If in lane…lay out to block shot or pass attempt otherwise let goalie see the shot if you can’t get there.

Blues don’t do any of 1-6…they just ice puck regularly and take way too many face-offs in their end in 6 on 5 situations…and anyone who watches the Blues knows it…from coaches to TV/Radio announcers to fans…so why wasn’t it fixed before game (7)? Why did Monty need it to bite the team in the playoffs before demanding a fix beforehand?

You missed #1: NO EASY ENTRIES. Blues were WAY too passive at the blue line.

I am going to give Montgomery a pass on this past year as he took over a roster he had no say on mid year with no training camp. Now fixing it is 100% on Montgomery. If it’s broken again next year then he get the blame.

Buchnevich panicked i watched that sequence a few times it appeared he had time to move his feet Thomas was ahead in the neutral zone he didnt have to immediately shoot it down the ice. He felt the weight of the pressure and panicked

How is this even possible….

They were the only team in the NHL to allow more goals-against with the goalie pulled than they scored empty-net goals (13-11).
