I didn't see one miss on balls and strikes by Ben May. not one.
those pitches just off the corner were called balls.
far cry from the normal we see

Got that much needed sweep finally! Might be just at .500 but I'll take it because it at least gives us a reset
Now can we do something with it like winning up in Washington? Who knows but I say why not? Winning on the road has to start somewhere, so why not now?

Crav, I agree with everything you wrote, and, I guess my question would be why/how he was lifting the ball in the minors, and can't seem to do it anymore. Is it the quality of pitches? Cause that doesn't seem right. Maybe whatever the organization did when/if they tried to change his swing? Also, if you feel like addressing my ramblings, between Baker, Burleson, Gorman and Walker, would you just let them all stay up with the big club to find out what you have for next year, or, is there any amount of leash that could run out on any of them that gets them sent down. As always, most appreciative of your threads, but, also all of your "hot" takes, lol!craviduce wrote: ↑07 May 2025 14:27 pm More ground and pound from Walker....107mph EV....nothing in the air. He needs to start his hands/bat in a better position so his bat flows through the zone at a better angle. He should be hitting the ball in the air.
2 RBI is 2 RBI...I like...but it's still a problem with the ground and pound

probably let them stay up ....they told us this was an evaluation year. We're not supposed to compete, right? I don't know. It's just my opinion...I'm probably wrong.DewittDaman11 wrote: ↑07 May 2025 14:53 pmCrav, I agree with everything you wrote, and, I guess my question would be why/how he was lifting the ball in the minors, and can't seem to do it anymore. I'm glad he got the RBI's. I just like to share my thoughts and my own ramblings....and it seems to (bleep) some people off.
maybe the Cards can work it out to get Saggese more time up here...maybe a rotation of players going to Memphis? That's probably not a good idea for the player's psyche...but I digress

Not buying it. He hits worm burners. They said, hey big guy, elevate and you will be successful. He ignores it or can't do itgreyhawk wrote: ↑07 May 2025 13:29 pmmaybe -- but my point is his instincts aren't being allowed to even come thru with how effed up they have his head.scoutyjones2 wrote: ↑07 May 2025 13:25 pmOr maybe "instincts" don't work in MLB and what worked as a big dog growing up, is not good enough against the elite leaguegreyhawk wrote: ↑07 May 2025 13:23 pmhe's obviously hit well before --- to bring golf full circle, at the plate he looks like the guy who takes 2 practice swings and thinks of 5 or more different things in the 15 seconds it takes him to pull the trigger on his golf shot. At some point you have to remove the technical and just rely on your instincts -- the best can do a combination of both but he just looks like everyone in the dugout gives him an idea before he takes his next at bat. Give him a couple shots of tequila to remove his brain from paralyzing himself at the plate (obviously joking) but i've seen first hand what it can do for golfers who are struggling.

I'm not so concerned with the leash running out as I am them choking themselves with it. I don't care what kind of pep talks you're hearing both in the mirror and from the coaching staff. Both Gorman and Jwalk (before that 2 ribi single) have been abysmal for the majority of the season.DewittDaman11 wrote: ↑07 May 2025 14:53 pmCrav, I agree with everything you wrote, and, I guess my question would be why/how he was lifting the ball in the minors, and can't seem to do it anymore. If they don't turn it around quick their confidence will be completely shot and MLB is no place to regain that.
Plus, I know it was the Rats, but 5 in a row is nothing to scoff at. With the emergence of some of these guys and Ivan's return, this team can compete if we minimize the lineups black holes.

Pleased to see Sonny Gray’s outing.
He seems polarizing on the forum .
There is a ‘he’s not an Ace’ often.
I don’t get into a guy is an Ace vs not an Ace talk.
I do know he is a quality veteran pitcher who in 2023 ? was runner-up CyYoung pitcher.
He knows how to pitch . He is very competitive on the mound .
Maybe he is not elite but he is darn good pitcher and had had a long career.
when your background is All American HS baseball player and starting HS QB leading your team to two state championship titles
You know this guy is a highly skilled and competitive athlete.
He seems to be a good team player too. Very likeable.
Very impressed with his outing today!

Yeah, no easy answers, for sure. With Walker, since he is barreling the ball, he's obviously not just getting on top of the pitch. So, logically, it would seem that his swing is a bit late, and that could just be pitch recognition. Maybe once his pitch recognition improves, and he's no longer hitting the ball too early, he will start lifting the ball. That's my hot take, coming from a guy that couldn't hit his way out of a paper bag.craviduce wrote: ↑07 May 2025 14:58 pmprobably let them stay up ....they told us this was an evaluation year. I think there was a time when you could consider Gray an Ace. I don't think he is still, but I think he's a great #1b/#2 starter.ramfandan wrote: ↑07 May 2025 15:24 pm Pleased to see Sonny Gray’s outing.

Now understand i never really watched much of Gray until he got here -- and while i see him more now i don't see him every time he pitches. He seems to me to let little things that don't go his way get under his skin once he gets into the middle innings. He can turn a bad throw/error into a 3 hit inning giving up 2+ runs in an absolute blink of an eye --- and this after he has cruised thru the first 4 or 5 or even 6 or 7 innings. That seems more mental than physical and at least to me a big part of being an ace is knowing you are going to deal and more importantly the other team knowing you are going to deal and potentially dominate. The Cards haven't had one of those since vintage Carp or Waino.Strummer Jones wrote: ↑07 May 2025 15:59 pmI think there was a time when you could consider Gray an Ace.
