15 6on5 goals allowed this season
Only team in the NHL to be negative 6on5. Brutally bad and cost them their season. Even during the winning streak, they were doing it. They did it vs PIT/VAN/COL. Did it against NSH/ANA as well but they came after the buzzer went so they got away with those. It could have been so much higher.

Basically the NHL version of blown saves...regardless, the Blues were the better team in the series and should have won, but didn't because of these type of fundamental breakdown. Can't fire another coach, you gotta clear out the problems, starting with Kyrou and Faulk

Not really sure how Kyrou is a "problem".smilinjoefission wrote: ↑05 May 2025 13:16 pm Basically the NHL version of blown saves...regardless, the Blues were the better team in the series and should have won, but didn't because of these type of fundamental breakdown. They seem to collapse to far towards their net. The tying goal no one was even in the passing lane from Elhers to Connor and again from Connor to Perfetti. That’s two lanes open.
I also wonder if speed is a big part of it? Sunny and Schenn don’t have that quickness to them for starting stopping.
The 6 in 5 issue does have nothing to do with Kyrou as he’ll never be in the ice to protect a lead.

Re: 15 6on5 goals allowed this season
This hasn't been a this year problem, this has been a multiple season problem.
I don't know what their issue is, but it absolutely has to be fixed. They go into a shell with 3 minutes left in a game and just allow teams to bring the game to them which results in high danger chances. They have issues clearing the puck, and scoring empty netters.
I was absolutely shocked that a team that was missing their #1 center, their #1 dman, and were down to 5 dmen was pushing the play in both overtimes. The only line that remotely threatened in either one was the WTF and that's pretty inexcusable. The other lines just stayed back and waited for the play to come to them, and offered no resistance for the Jets to get out of their dzone.
It all started with that ridiculous shot from Namestikov that went off Suters stick into the net on a shot that was likely going 3 feet wide. Then Buchs idiotic decision to fire the puck down the ice for an icing only taking about 2 seconds off the clock instead of a soft chip out or something like that which would have taken off 8-10 seconds, and that's if Thomas doesn't get the puck. Then just the repeated backing in on the blue line allowing them to take shot after shot after shot. Then the biggest issue of all, the most dangerous man on the ice Kyle Conner, being left wide open to take that shot/pass with 3 seconds left. There's no way he should have been left wide open, none.
It's an issue that they 100% have to fix this off season.

I wonder how the players compare for say the top 10 teams at closing games out to say Suter, Tucker, Faska,Sunny, Walker, Schenn? Even Buch isn’t the most fleet of foot. That seems like a lot of slower players and I believe most of these guys are used to protect a lead.
Is there a way to know what combos allowed the most goals? Would Parayko and Broberg ever close together? Thomas with Joesph and Torpo? They all have speed and size.

I am just curious if anyone knows how many of those goals scored on us, 6 on 5, happened while Faulk was on the ice?

Vancouver game he 100% was because he iced the puck right before Buch sleptwalk and left that guy wide open to tie it with a few seconds left.
I'd wager its well over 50% of the time Faulk was out there. He was out there for both last night.

Faulk didn’t ice it in that situation, worse, IMO, he hoisted it into the Vancouver bench. He had all day and tried to be cute and lob a pass to Buch on the opposite side of the ice. It may have actually been dumber than what Buch did last night TBH.MarmolMathenyShildtLOL wrote: ↑05 May 2025 19:02 pmVancouver game he 100% was because he iced the puck right before Buch sleptwalk and left that guy wide open to tie it with a few seconds left.

From that chart, I'm not sure how to figure out how many times that when the Blues pull the goalie, the other team scores the empty-netter. I see we scored 11 which was below league average.
But it seems like when we do pull the goalie, more often than not the other team is scoring within the first 30 seconds.

I watched Vegas play the Flames their 2nd last meeting of the year and as desperate as the Flames were, Vegas players were very skilled at hanging on to pucks when it seemed like they were in trouble and they usually either skated or passed the puck out of trouble. They played that way the entire game and it wasn't just one or two players showing the ability to do that. I'm sure those same skills are what would help the Blues in those end of game situations.

In my opinion this is a coaching issue. Its really apparent to me that they needed to be drilling this scenario relentlessly. I can't tell you how many power plays this year I felt like screaming at the TV because they would flub up clearing attempts, they would just stand around and watch people skate in on goal, and their PK just seemed listless as if waiting for something to happen. They need to drill this. Their needs to be consequences for failing to clear or even worse either standing around or passing it to the other opponent in your zone. The team in general needs to get a lot better in this area.
