Is Burleson being punished for something he did in another lifetime?
First half 2024- I thought he was a pleasant surprise.
Second half of 2024- drop off. Less plate discipline.
Early 2025- Slow start.
Defense- Respectable at 1B. Can play corner OF if an emergency occurs during a game.
Speed- clearly below average.
The guy is probably destined to be a platoon bat which means he’ll be on the fence for a roster spot unless he starts to rake with power.
He makes league minimum.
Who is he he blocking???
LOL....he generates more comments than any other player on CT!
I’m surprised nobody has referred to him as the Anti-Christ.

Some of you stray cats are too much. LOL Get a fricken' life.
Talk about irony...
Ole ShadyMarshall starts yet another Burly thread...one of dozens he's started over the years...and he's asking other posters opinion of his beloved Burly.
But....
When he finds out yet again that many posters are not quite as enamored with his boy as he is....he tells those posters to "get a fricken' life".
If you didn't want everyone's opinion, you should not have asked Marshall!
Here is what I see. A supposedly accomplished former attorney that seems to have nothing better to do than continuously harass a peasant like me. "If you didn't want everyone's opinion, you should not have asked". What a joke you are. You have no good intentions here. Just ignore me if you are so above me. Why can't you simply do that ? Case closed.

Why should I ignore you when you continue to spam the board with the same posts over and over and over?
Why don't you place me on ignore like you have told me you have done so many times?
It's all fun n games with you Marshall until someone points out how stupid your ideas are!

Those who enjoyed the Matt Adams experience should also enjoy Burleson.
I’ve been saying that for a while, and it’s mostly about a low walk rate.
You can have a low walk rate, but to be successful, you gotta hit for a high average and/or have really good SLUG.
A .280 BA won’t do it. Has to be over .305.
Just curious, what kind of BAs do Walker and Gorman need to have in order to satisfy the standards you and other critics have for Burleson?
Gorman can probably live with a .260 BA since his BB% is 10%.
Walker probably around .275 - .285. Maybe .290.
And don't be so sensitive. Burleson's career walk rate is 6.3%. He probably needs to AT LEAST have an .800 OPS to be considered a starter. So do the math: Between BA / OBP / OPS, how does one achieve a .800 OPS w a 6.3% walk rate?
.800 OPS isn’t a standard for a starter… more of an all-star. Last year only 4 regular 1B in the majors had an .800 OPS or higher, and only 11 outfielders passed that mark.
Great to see him somewhat coming to life these past 3 games. Huge contribution to the offense if he gets going at least comparable to last years numbers. He's always put the ball in play, it's just good to see balls other than lazy flies to CF. Keep it going A;B!
Burleson seemed to be going for home runs today. I kind of like that approach ahead in the count as a #6 hitter in the lineup. But it may result in more strikeouts and a lower BA. But I could see him at about 20 HRs on the season.

I don't think I mind going for the HR's....from him. He wasn't doing himself any favors hitting the grounders....even if some found the outfield. He had zero production doing that. I'd rather he K and hit 20 HR's, than pray for Seeing Eye Singles and avoiding GIDP

I agree. And more doubles wouldn't hurt either.

Not at all. Especially in a 1-2 run game. He's a guy who can add an insurance run with one swing.

Good to see Bumbles finally coming alive, keep building that trade value!
May
21 PA
2 HR
5 RBI
.250 .286 .600 .886
BUT
Mar/Apr
91 PA
0 HR
6 RBI
.259 .308 .294 .602
I wouldn't say a .286 OBP in May is "coming alive." I wish him well, but of all the young players, he is my least favorite.
So you prefer Gorman over Burleson as hitters?
IMO, Gorman has a higher upside that he has yet to reach, and he may never. Burleson has a lower ceiling that can be replaced by a more versatile athlete.

For whatever the main reasons are, the Cardinals really seem to like Burleson. It may not be obvious to many other CT posters. But it is to me.
