In 2019 the Blues beat the Dallas Stars in 2OT of Game 7 in the second round on a goal you MIGHT remember.
What ever became of the Stars, wearing that terrible albatross of crushing defeat? Well:
They went to the Cup Finals the following season.
Ponder that for a moment, then consider they've been to the Conference Finals twice since!
The Stars likely felt they came within an inch of winning the Stanley Cup in 2019. That is unwritten history. The Blues may feel like they came within 1.6 seconds. That's all for another day, reminiscing on the long past. The Blues need to take a lesson from the Stars: Put it behind you, focus on the goal ahead of you.
This is harder than moving on from a blown hand pass call, all the marbles spilled on the floor. We fans can armchair GM to our hearts content, we can debate ad nauseum who and didn't do what. The Blues Organization, Coaches, and Players have work to do.

Nicely put. Plus which would be worse? Losing in the last 1.6 seconds and being upbeat for next year, or getting crushed by Dallas in 5 and having a totally different outlook.DawgDad wrote: ↑06 May 2025 11:31 am In 2019 the Blues beat the Dallas Stars in 2OT of Game 7 in the second round on a goal you MIGHT remember.

Re: Perspective
Since we are comparing the Blues to the Stars, help me understand something.
Faksa played very well in Dallas, but they released him last year because they had better and younger centers on all 4 lines. At least one is a rookie (Wyatt Johnson).
At what point in your simple logical timeline, will the Blues be busting at the seams with 4 talented NHL centers, and we can release Faksa too?
At the moment, Faksa is one of our 2 best centers..
Please don't compare us to Dallas. It's just not going to work, man.

I didn't compare the Blues team to Dallas, I noted how Dallas responded after losing to the Blues in a Game 7 2OT.a smell of green grass wrote: ↑06 May 2025 15:31 pm Since we are comparing the Blues to the Stars, help me understand something.

You're talking about 3rd year rising star Wyatt Johnston who now has his second 30 goal season on his resume after being drafted #23 OA in 2021.

Re: Perspective
That can't be. Only top 5 picks become impact players. Wyatt was definitely drafted top 5. I have it on good authority that any pick after that is guaranteed to be a waste. For proof, nobody even mentioned Dvorsky today. He's obviously a bum.zamadoo wrote: ↑06 May 2025 18:05 pmFaksa wasn't released, he was traded to the Blues.a smell of green grass wrote: ↑06 May 2025 15:31 pm

The good news about the quality of Wyatt Johnson arrived to the fans of Dallas about 1 year after he was drafted, and the news of his stardom grew louder every month after.Army's Mom wrote: ↑06 May 2025 18:24 pm

When talking about our prospects, Armstrong can only say at the 2-year mark....
- Boy I like that Kazkamaki. He is a Steen but can't score.
- Poor Stenberg has to learn how to travel a bit.
- Dvorsky is likely going back to Springfield next year.
l suggest that all Blues fans read a few newspapers around the US to find out what building a successful roster looks and feels like. Compare that to what is coming our of Army's mouth. You will be as po'd as I am.

Dallas "responded" by drafting exceptionally well. Getting superstar players on your team can make a fan quickly forget a Game 7 2OT loss.
Getting injury-riddled Jiricek is not going to make us forget Pavel Buchnevich's boneheaded play. Having Buchnevich inked for 6 more years is not going to help us forget his boneheaded play.
Re: Perspective
So, you're stuck in the mud. Nothing will change, no lessons learned, no player development, no benefit from getting Holloway back in the lineup, no helpful moves in the offseason, no strengthening of the team's will to win and avenge this loss? All because "us" cannot let this go? Because we have no faith any of the prospects will pan out despite what we've seen from the young players who recently came up and contributed? Sorry, I'm not stuck in the mud with you.a smell of green grass wrote: ↑06 May 2025 21:34 pmYep, let me clarify it for you.DawgDad wrote: ↑06 May 2025 16:48 pmI didn't compare the Blues team to Dallas, I noted how Dallas responded after losing to the Blues in a Game 7 2OT.a smell of green grass wrote: ↑06 May 2025 15:31 pm Since we are comparing the Blues to the Stars, help me understand something.

I've seen 57 years of Blues hockey, the ups and downs, the good teams and the bad, the great players and the JAGs, prospects that became Hall of Famers and the ones who never panned out, the miracle accomplishments and the crushing defeats, even an entire draft that went by without a single Blues pick! How would "us" handle THAT in this internet age?
Want to know how I handled it? I kept tuning in and attending Blues games. Over and over. I cheered for Federko, Sutter, Mullen, Gilmour, Ramage and all the others. I went to see the the new guy Brett Hull. I went to see the new kid Chris Pronger. I enrolled my son in youth hockey. I cheered for his one-time teammate, Paul Stastny.
I don't ever want to forgot how great Glenn Hall played in a losing effort in the Cup Finals, just like I won't forget the guys whose hearts were broken by Yzerman or how hard the players on this team battled the President's Trophy team. I'll sign up to see the Blues on TV next season. I'll endure a whole summer of Braves baseball anxiously awaiting more Blues hockey. I'll wear my Blues cap proudly - down here in Georgia.
Blues hockey is FAR bigger than one disappointing playoff loss. Far too important in people's lives. Did you not learn anything from the 2019 Cup and parade? The rockier the road the sweeter the reward at the end.

Re: Perspective
+1000-this is not the way that anyone wanted to see the Blues' season end. However, it was a much more enjoyable season than most on here thought it would be when it began. I am not devastated because they went way further than expected. The same players who made mistakes to cost us the series may never make those mistakes the next time. No one knows for sure what would have happened. We played a truly physical series to 7 games without one of our best players. I wish Holloway would have been healthy. It turns out like many thought that he was never gonna play. He would have been a very useful player in this series and may have been the difference for the Blues. We can find all kind of reasons and blame, but the truth is it might have been my favorite season ever.DawgDad wrote: ↑06 May 2025 22:51 pmSo, you're stuck in the mud. Great reply their Blues fan. Despite our difference of opinions, I genuinely admire and respect you and your outlook and approach. While Doug Armstrong rattles my nerves, your words put me in a happy place. The same thing happened today at the presser. I love all the players and Monty, even the current goats (Kyrou and Buchnevich)--and then Armstrong came on, and my eyes crossed as soon as he opened his mouth, and then I unloaded my frustration on BluesTalk.DawgDad wrote: ↑06 May 2025 22:51 pmSo, you're stuck in the mud. I'm already over the playoff loss. My problem is Doug Armstrong's approach to building the team and his dodgy politician speeches. I feel like his approach is screwing over the fans of St Louis, and no one is holding him accountable.
I'm very glad to hear that you are enjoying the team through all the years. I appreciate you sharing that. I'm going to give that some extra thought, and maybe adjust my helmet a bit.
Thank you.
