It’s not hard to figure out why.
Okay, rat, let's try this. The fact that there are so many empty seats at Cardinal ball games is because ownership,
the front office, and field management are all incredibly inept. Is that better for the negative crowd?
No. That’s a bit strong. Ownership deserves some ownership simple because it’s their business. Front office who knows how much success they have had, Field management is mediocre at best.

That’s a better summary.
Thanks, SB. I was getting the impression from a number of posters that it's been a horrible last 10 years, the manager is awful, the front office is totally inept, and ownership should sell to a super billionaire who will come out of his own
pocket to buy big time expensive players to take the Cardinals back to the very top of the MLB world. Maybe I was reading it wrong. Oh, and also that only what happens in the playoffs is important.
Getting closer…

I’d say it’s a combo of poor performance along with some tone deaf statements that the cardinals are entitled to large crowds. The lack of a marketable superstar isn’t helping.

I’m not an economist but I suspect the economic doom and gloom on the news, online and social media isn’t helping.

And I think for decades the cardinals benefitted from great announcers that felt like old friends, and now we have upbeat Brad and off topic Caray selling us on everyone, every inning.

Whenever these threads are hijacked by front office (donkey) kissers, I assume they are made by a person without friends or family and have little social contact except through CT. So their constant gaslighting and attacking other posters is their need for attention...They are harmless and are pitiful.

2) There are interesting young players like Wynn and Scott but no must see stars in their primes.

3) In addition to the Cards keeping their powder dry economic uncertainty is causing families to keep more of their own powder dry, and St. Louis is not a particularly wealthy market to begin with.

This causes people to watch at home (if they watch) or spend a weekend afternoon grilling out or at a park.
Hey Mort, this is a good take. On your 2nd point I posted something similar earlier in this thread. At this time the team has some players that are a little above average at best. A few have potential to be better than that in the future. But right now they don't have a Pujols, Edmonds, Rolen, Molina, Chris Carpenter or Wainwright. That's what's missing.

True. Even in the dreadful '07 season after Hancock died there was still prime Pujols, Molina, and Ankiel's reinvention was electric.

(Edit: I'm doomed to misspell Winn for a while longer)

Unfortunately, not fair to the players who represent the city and the fans.

Amazing that someone who hasn't watched a game in a long time is still on a fan forum.
I follow for entertainment but can't watch baseball by rote. I listen on the radio.

Of course not. You're wasting your time arguing with one complete idiot that has nothing but time on his hands. The attendance is indicative of what people feel about this roster and organization. Period, end of story.
So watching developing and maturing players like Donovan, Winn, Scott, Herrera, Burleson, Nootbaar, Pages,
Gorman, Walker, Liberatore, McGreevy, etc. isn't of interest?
Since when did developing players on the St. Louis Cardinals be the objective?? The objective is to win games and get the to WS. If a couple young guys are developing and helping the team achieve this objective great…..but for this to be the only reason to go see the St. Louis Cardinals is a fraud for the amount of money required. BDW should go buy some minor league teams so you, MO, BDW, III can watch all the youngsters you can find to see how they develop. I think you, MO, BDW, and III have forgotten what the ST. Louis Cardinals are. Go watch some vids of ‘64, 67, 68, 82, 85, 87, 04, 06, 11, 13, perhaps you’ll snap out of it.

I understand baseball. I love the DH. I rarely attend for other more obvious reasons.
Thousands have stopped attending Cardinals games.

why are some surprised at this?

this is only going to keep getting worse until the Cards get new owners. I predicted this years ago.

no top player free agents want to come to Cards to play for a no name manager.. a team that has no super stars or doesn't spend money to try to compete with the best teams in the NL.

the Cards literally have no hope in the future. they are also not great at developing player in the minors and finding gems to turn it around

many Cards fans finally realize this now.. more and more every year. I'm shocked that not all Cards fans don't' realize this yet. there is some out there that think getting rid of the GM or Manager will change things. no .. it's pretty simple and most are starting to realize

the Cardinals will NEVER win another NL Pennant again until they get new owners. I knew thisyears ago already and basically have lost interest in Cardinal baseball because of it.

I would say at least 50% of the fan base knows this now.. but there are still slow fans out there that who don't.
