Game 7 was the worst, most crushing loss in hockey history

Post by Konstantinov »

I'm sorry, but show me a game 7 with the double gut punch of:
2 GOALS SCORED IN THE LAST 2 MINUTES WITH THE GOALIE PULLED
A GOAL SCORED WITH 1.7 SECONDS LEFT - THE LATEST IN NHL HISTORY TO TIE OR LEAD IN GAME 7
AGAINST STANLEY CUP WINNER, 4 NATIONS WINNER JORDAN BINNINGTON IN NET

The game was over. We had a 3-1 lead with under 2 minutes left.
We had a 3-2 lead with 2 seconds left.
This was the most unlikeliest comeback in hockey history.
I don't give a rats (bleep) where the teams were seeded for the playoffs.

Maybe sports aren't for you. 8)

There are two types of people in this world: those who get over things, and those who don't.

It's back luck when it happens once or twice. The Blues were the uncontested kings of giving up last second goals all season long. It was faulking annoying. Apparently, they simply attributed it to "bad luck" as well, because they never focused on preventing this. One positive note, Monty has said this will be addresed and worked on moving forward.

But as far as this season goes, in the end, they got what they deserved.

So you're not counting it as a tough loss because you were "expecting it"
That's moronic.

Show me a more devastating, more shocking comeback in a game 7 in NHL history. I'll hang up and listen.

It’s not even the worst, most crushing loss in Blues history.

Oh please. You're just another troll (probably a bleedr moniker) who hates the Blues, their GM-fans-etc, and you're playing demagogue trying to drum up dissent among the Blues' fan population in hopes you can evoke more mental and emotional outbursts so you can try and feed off the misery to bring happiness to your deluded mind.

And for the record (not that it matters) but any Round 2, 3, or 4 elimination loss in Games 6 or 7 is worse because it's not the opening round.

I'm gonna bet the Blues spent most of their practice time figuring out how to get a lead in the first place and rightfully so. After all if you can't get a lead it doesn't matter much if you can protect one.

I love the Blues.
I am not saying they choked.
Im not trying to stir up dissent.
But just trying to put what we watched into perspective.
Its history folks. The closest goal to 0:00 in game 7 history, AND another goal with a pulled goalie right before that!!

It’s absolutely stunning when you think about it.

Two things:

1. The Blues gave up 15 goals during the year when the other team pulled their goalie. Clearly this is something they need to work on.

2. The first goal was a fluke goal. But, it does get in your head.

The Blues unfortunately have the whole offseason to have this in their heads. The only way to deal with it is to get back out there and play. That part is simply delayed.

I can’t remember any Blues losses like that. I told my son most big game losses for the Blues usually you knew well before the game was over. I can’t remember any big games the Blues were winning by 2 with 2 mins to go.

I think that what made it feel like the most crushing is that it was predictable based on the regular season.

Ask Blues fans what would be the most likely heartbreaking disaster, and that scenario would have been at the top.

The other crushing thing about it is that Binnington outplayed the other choker goalie, and we just p_____ that advantage away.

Welcome to the new playoff albatross around your neck, St Louis.

The Blues have made the playoffs 46 out of 57 times and have 1 Stanley cup.
Statistically they should have at least 2.
I think of the teams with Hull, Pronger, MacInnis... etc when I was growing up and think how in the hell did they not win a cup in the 90's / early 2000's?

Then you see things like Yzerman game 7 goal in double OT in 1996 that eliminated the Blues. Easily his most famous goal and possibly Detroit's most famous goal ever.
Just youtube or google "Yzerman" and this goal will be one of the top results.

Or how about Owen Nolan from center ice in game 7 of the first round in 2000. The goal was in the first period but there were 10 seconds left and it ended up being the game winner.

So to me, this most recent heart-breaker is just that. Another heartbreaker from a franchise that has already given me many. Is it near the top? Well seeding does matter to me and this will be a fantastic lesson and a ton of experience for this Blues club.
Amazing effort for an 8 seed vs the supposed presidents trophy vezina goaltender who may also win MVP.

those were very tough losses no doubt with some weak goals.

But did the Blues have 99.2% and 99.7% chance of winning respectively, at the time of either of those goals?

It was tough way to lose even for me who didn't expect a deep run in these playoffs. It just proves what many have said all season long, when you get into the playoffs, anything can happen. The problem is 99% didn't think what happened would happen. Of course they're not going to admit that.

Who cares. Avs had a 93+% chance of winning their game 7 halfway through the third period too. And that was just 24 hours before the Blues game. At least the Blues went to double OT and still had a chance to win the game after blowing it. Avs just completely crumbled. To add insult to injury the guy they traded this year scored a hat trick in the third period to beat them too. Now THAT is a crushing loss too.

I made a post after the Blues were down 2 games to 0 about playoff statistics and how people these days get too obsessed and overhyped about them. To me the Yzerman and Nolan goals were way more crushing because of the caliber of those teams.

As noted just 25 hours before the Blues game another team blew a 2 goal lead in the third period of a game 7. This Blues L is not even close to the worst loss in hockey history.
