Burleson

Post by Shady »

Just curious if the bold, anti-Burleson delegation on Cards Talk are still convinced that Burleson shouldn't even be on the STL Cardinals team. What say you? And please leave me out of it. I've been fairly concerned about Burleson's hitting, this season, myself.

Allow me to speak for all the bold, malcontents, nitwits, hotshot, gang-bangers.

No, I find Burleson to be extremely useless.
He can't run. Middling fielder. No power.

Now some may have wet their panties because he hit two homers (finally), but let's take a serious look at the
Numbers in 2025 and in his career, shall we? In other words, we're not going to go by one to two games or how we feel or how it appears. Let's look at evidence.

2025:
255/303/343/646
3 doubles, 2 homers, 9 RBI

Okay, these numbers are truly awful. But perhaps it's an anomaly?

Career:

256/306/396/702
1, 012 ABs, 44 doubles, 32 HR, 126 RBI

Not much better. The actual data tells a compelling story. Burleson is a sub-par hitter who can't run or play great defense at a premium defensive position. He's not needed on this club. His career fWAR stands at 0.1. No value whatsoever. And at 26, he's not a kid.

There you go...attention received!

I generally haven't liked when Burly has been in the lineup, especially in spots expecting production. But he has had some better looking swings the last couple games. if he can build on that then i'm all for it

He needs to be a plus .800 OPS guy to bring much value to a team. Let me know when he gets there. He's still at -0.2 bWAR for this season.

Not going to change my opinion on a guy based on a week.

If Gorman hits 400 this week with a couple of bombs are you going to think be flipped a switch and can suddenly manage the strike zone?

Burleson and Gorman just don't have other tools to carry them when the hit tool isn't clicking. They've both had extended periods where they are a black hole. Winn, or Donovan could go a week without hitting and you would still be glad they were there.

He might end up being a decent player on another team. The fact is neither he nor Baker have a place on the Cardinals with Willie playing 1st.

I think you overrate him horribly, but i think hebis showing signs of being able to hit along the lines of a .730+ ops like he did last season and should continue playing to see if he can stay hot. Even if cards wamted to trade him ciz contrerasnis entrenchedbat 1b, its to eberyones benefit and hisntrade value that we let him heat up. If gorman or walker have to go.back to minors to get regular playing time so be it. Im not confident in either one busting out of slumls right nkw

It took 234 consecutive AB's for him to finally hit a HR! 8O

Glad he followed it up w/another, keep building that trade value and we might get two bags of balls plus a broken bat for him.

BoSox anyone?

The two taters were nice.
But he's still only 3 for 12 in his last 3 games.

understood and agreed. At some point almost all players have a good or hot streak. i personally expect burleson to hit well for maybe the next 2-3 weeks, then return to the baseline we've seen since last summer. i hope i'm incorrect on that

My big fear is that with these last couple games Oli may keep Burleson in the 2 spot even when Winn and Herrera are back in the lineup.
