What do you find more exciting- the timed sport or baseball. The buzzer beater. Or the final out.

Baseball is a pass time. The others are a physical endeavor. In baseball you walk, and you play by an inning.
All others you run and are on a clock.

Ironically baseball is timed but not for structural purposes.

So what do you think. Timed or not.

I would follow up your question with another question:

What sports (outside of baseball) are not timed? Just cricket? Maybe NASCAR/racing - but that exists as a competition to finish the quickest? Even competitive fishing exists within a set time period...

So then, is the OP question really positioned as baseball against the world?

It does seem that way. Baseball against the world. That’s what gives baseball its magic.

I’m more awake now. Coffee!!

The Blues loss put an exclamation mark on excitement, and timing. 1.2 seconds. In a game that had 3600 seconds of play. Ended on a goal in sudden death.

Baseball doesn’t have sudden death, it has the walk off. Similar, even if skewed left.

Baseball could go late or be delayed. Time not dependent.

I have always found it intriguing the difference in the two game control methods.

They like constant action sports like soccer, hockey, lacrosse, etc. Might come from the constant action of video games.

You point out several important facts- loss of power nterest, constant action, and videos.

Yes you and I had three channels on tv. Our big shows were game of the week and Monday night football.

So we played outside. Daily. Into the night. Today, as with you and I right now, it’s eiectroics.

Baseball is athletic chess. There is a lot of time to think about strategy. Even pitch by pitch of course. It develops slowly and then explodes into action. Or the slowly developing play... Like yesterday. The long arching, seemingly homer to CF and Scott II drifting back...finding the wall....leaping... and he got it! I always loved the fact you could get a 20 inning game on a July night. Listening to Harry and Jack on the transistor in bed as a kid in the top of the 15th. Once a summer anyway... I hate the ghost runner. That is baseball. Most games are over in 9, but now and then.... None of this timed nonsense.....

Or maybe the constant action of society these days. We have so much more media thrown at us these days. Lives seem busier. Sitting down to watch a pitcher's duel for 3 hours doesn't seem fulfilling. IMO, watching regular season sports has lost fulfillment for me in general. I'd rather get outside. Do something more meaningful with my life, and then check in on some scores later (or not), than to waste my days parked in front of a TV watching others perform.

As you age the slow down will descend upon you. Say 70 ish. Till then it’s like a train. Get on hold on or get off and get left behind.

It's all good.
The clock made last nights Blues/Jets game an all-time classic, well, in Winnipeg anyway.
So many famous buzzer beaters in basketball you can't even start to name them.
The clock has saved some lives in boxing.
The great QB's, and a few bad ones have made the last 2 minutes in the NFL must see television for millions.
MLB has great moments, but 9 inning marathons that lasted over 4 hours weren't cool. Hardly anyone stayed for 15 or more inning games.
The new rules have helped imo.
