Blues Worst Team in League at BOTH 6 on 5s

Post by callitwhatyouwant »

I don't know where the poster on Reddit pulled the list from. But the Blues are the only team in the entire league that gave up more 6 on 5 then they scored. They had 11 goals to giving up 13 (now 15). That stat is absolutely insane. The 6 on 5 is supposed to be a miracle throw, so the fact that we weren't that proficient at it, and we gave up a ton of goals is a bit worrisome moving forward. My first inclination would be it coming down to a system. Are we willing to take a risk there or are we relying on Binner to bail us out? Second thing would be that our higher skill guys are a bit younger. 6 on 5 both offensively and defensively is a rare part of the game that you only get to experience in high leverage situations. Clearly you aren't getting proper practice at it in practice because we aren't good at it. Hopefully, like a few years ago when backdoor tap ins were happening every game, this is something that gets solved over the summer.

What I would have liked to see? Another poster said this somewhere, I wonder if it's at all worth it to get ultra aggressive and take a penalty. At this point in the game, the Blues could have taken a risk and taken a penalty. Get as ugly as possible while the clock is running. I don't know what the risk reward is there but allowing yourself to ice the puck when it appears your strategy was, win face off/ice the puck doesn't seem like a terrible strategy.

Anyone else have any ideas.

Easy for me to say watching but it looks like they collapse too much towards the net. The lane from Elhers to Connor should have had a stick in it. Also not sure how aware the players are of the clock but either Schenn or Faulk could have dove to cut of the pass to Perfetti and the clock would have run out.
