Re: End of Season Thought on the Future
The blues turned a corner as a new team entirely. They banded together and took the next step. The blues playoff and cup window has just swung back open. We have the coach, we have the vetts, we have the journeymen and now we have the young talent.

Definitely to much wasted cap sitting there(I don't have a solution for that)Nublues69 wrote: ↑05 May 2025 09:22 am The blues turned a corner as a new team entirely. Re: End of Season Thought on the Future
I think the Blues need a legit FA center i dont see Dvorsky coming out of camp with a full time center spot in Oct. could certainly be wrong he has all Summer to make another leap but Id look at the FA pool for immediate helpNublues69 wrote: ↑05 May 2025 09:22 am The blues turned a corner as a new team entirely. Dvorsky will be on opening night roster. But if we went free agent Bennet and Duchene would have my eye

I think thats a long shot and Blues wont have that kind of FA money to spend. Looking at a 3rd center on a shorter deal until Dvorsky shows he can handle a regular spot in the NHL. Eyssimont, Frederic, there are a lot of options available

15.5 mil in Cap space with Krug on LTIR.
9 mil without him on LTIR.
Faksa and Suter are the only UFA's of note.
Hofer is our only RFA of note.
We've got plenty of room to make a high-end signing if we wanted to.
I'm just not sure that would be the best course of action.
Re: End of Season Thought on the Future
I think a healthy Holloway buys you one more year of Schenn at C on the second line if they play like they did this year. Give Dvorsky some time to acclimate and then flip them in a year. I'd be looking for RD like most say and some sandpaper on the 3rd line. I'd LOVE Bennett but he'll be waaaaaaayyyy overpaid.

I'll pass on "sandpaper" for the 3rd line.bixblues wrote: ↑05 May 2025 10:25 am I think a healthy Holloway buys you one more year of Schenn at C on the second line if they play like they did this year. As of right now, the 3rd line wingers look to be Neighbours and Bolduc. I want them with a skill player(ideally Dvorsky), not another grinder like Sunny.
Move on from Faulk and give me a solid defensive upgrade but that's about it IMO.
At most, look at Tex and Joseph as the spare forwards. Not that either was overly bad, but that's a lot of Cap space tied up in bench players that can't play center.

I don't know the situation beyond next year, but a big FA signing would impact our ability to sign both Holloway and Broberg beyond next year. They are certainly part of our core.kimzey59 wrote: ↑05 May 2025 10:24 amhttps://capwages.com/teams/st_louis_bluesHarry S Deals wrote: ↑05 May 2025 09:42 amI think thats a long shot and Blues wont have that kind of FA money to spend. I don't know which is right or wrong because I have not done the math personally but I'm not seeing any where near that cap space on puck pedia and at glance that seems high to me.kimzey59 wrote: ↑05 May 2025 10:24 amhttps://capwages.com/teams/st_louis_bluesHarry S Deals wrote: ↑05 May 2025 09:42 amI think thats a long shot and Blues wont have that kind of FA money to spend. We're projected to have 49.5 mil in cap space for the '26 offseason(granted, that's just for 9 players).
Fowler, Leddy, Joseph, Texier, Sunny, Toro and Walker as UFA's.
Broberg, Holloway, Bolduc and Kessel as RFA's.
Realistically speaking, I wouldn't want to put more than 6-7 mil into a trade/UFA this summer; but I don't see us having any kind of issue getting Broberg/Holloway signed. A lot of the guys on the free agent list will have ELC contracts coming in to replace them(Dvorsky, Lindstein, Stenberg, Pekarcik, Stancl) so we can pretty easily afford to splurge if we really want to.

Re: End of Season Thought on the Future
I dont think Army is going to lock in to a big money FA center with Thomas, Schenn, Faksa and Dvorsky at some point on the horizon. I dont think the will spend to the cap just to say they are spending to the cap. I do think they need to outside the organization and find more of a short term playmaker if possible to play with Bolduc and Neighbours. I really like Ryan McLeod, age fits, skill, FO% but it would require a steep ish trade. A player like Eyssimont for example some speed, hits, a little skill would be an upgrade over Sunny and probably cheaper. This is the type of player i think Army grabskimzey59 wrote: ↑05 May 2025 11:05 amTony Palazzolo wrote: ↑05 May 2025 10:45 amI don't know the situation beyond next year, but a big FA signing would impact our ability to sign both Holloway and Broberg beyond next year. I wouldn't mind him coming back for a few years, but absolutely not at his current cap hit.
Right now we have Thomas, Schenn and Sunny(who needs a greatly reduced role) for next year. The question is whether we plug Dvorsky into the #3 center spot, or look outside the organization. Personally, I roll with Dvorsky. I think Neighbours and Bolduc can carry him until he gets up to speed(and I don't think that will take long).

Re: End of Season Thought on the Future
Im skeptical on Dvorsky sliding in right away, 2 NHL games not sure Army wants to take that gamble but the Blues people will know more i trust their judgement. Cant say whether Faksa lands another $3 mill deal somewhere that sounds too high for me id be ok at $2 mill ish then looking for another center for more NHL depth. If Dvorsky blows everyone away this summer and in camp so be it the Blues will go with the best players they wont anoint anyonekimzey59 wrote: ↑05 May 2025 11:21 amFaksa is a UFA.Harry S Deals wrote: ↑05 May 2025 11:12 amI dont think Army is going to lock in to a big money FA center with Thomas, Schenn, Faksa and Dvorsky at some point on the horizon. Re: End of Season Thought on the Future
Agree with everything but Schenn as the second line center. He was ok in that role and it allowed Holloway and Kyrou some space to work, but I just don't think he has the legs to play that position anymore. I believe he needs to be on the wing, or centering the third line.kimzey59 wrote: ↑05 May 2025 11:21 amFaksa is a UFA.Harry S Deals wrote: ↑05 May 2025 11:12 amI dont think Army is going to lock in to a big money FA center with Thomas, Schenn, Faksa and Dvorsky at some point on the horizon. The problem is there is no one internally that can man that 2C spot right now. Dvorsky could hopefully but he won't be ready by this fall.
