Is Helsley going to turn to [shirt] like the others before we can even trade him?

Last 7 games -- 7 IP, 6 hits, 2 Ks, 4 BBs, 1.43 WHIP.
0 Ks in his last 3 outings covering 3 IP. Something must not be right with him?

A stylish post!Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑03 May 2025 09:28 amI correctly said it in the offseason . Relievers are rarely consistent. Josh hader one of the best in the game has had ERAs of 5.22 1.28 3.80 1.80 in the past four seasons Edwin Diaz 1.31 3.52 and 4.50. Helsely had 4 blown saves all of last season he wasn’t going to have a repeat season that good again especially since he has never thrown 50 or more innings in back to back seasons so given it was a very slim chance of repeating i correctly said he should have been traded in the offseason season. Instead now hes already blown 2 saves in just 6 chances and his value goes down by the day. Easy obvious correct he should have been traded but slow Mo again did not trade a player at peak valueMelville wrote: ↑03 May 2025 08:15 amNo, he is not starting to slide.
Yes, losing (TOXIC CULTURE) has infected the entire organization.
Yes, it is hard for any closer to harness his customary aggressiveness to pitch the 9th in a blowout loss.
No, he can't be used correctly when working for a team which rarely provides save opportunities - and that problem will only continue to get worse as long as The Marmot is allowed to remain a dead man walking because his presence serves only to remind the team that winning is not the goal, not the expectation.
Yes, at this point STL needs to trade him since they ignored the opportunity to sign him to an extension last year - which would have been the CORRECT BASEBALL DECISION as I expertly advised at the time.
I like it.

Helsley heats up with the weather -- most power pitchers do better in the warmth of summer, its may 3rd. He likely won't be as good as last year but until or if his velocity drops he has value and potentially a lot of value if more teams have closers go down...if only it weren't MO being the decision maker on this.

They don''t call him super slow Mo for nothing. The other teams know this. Oh sure, they were “interested”, at pennies on the dollar. Look what the Brewers got for Devin Williams: an inconsistent starter with personal problems and one year of control and a prospect not even in the Yankees’ Top 30. You guys would have crucified Mo for that return. Helsley’s value is not going down. There’s only one way for it to go and it’s up. If he stays healthy, he’ll get a better return than the Brewers got for Williams. As for Fedde, when teams can sign a Jose Quintana for $5 million, why would they give up much value for Fedde? The Cardinals need VALUE, not just SOMETHING for Helsley and Fedde. Both will be dealt at or before the deadline. The return WILL be greater than in the offseason.
For those who want Helsley signed to an extension, they can always re-sign him in the offseason.
Could've traded the NL Fireman of the Yea in the offseason for a haul.
Moron can't be gone soon enough.

Why trade him for what likely would be peanuts instead of getting the draft pick for someone signing after he turns down the qualifying offer?

If he continues to be mediocre he would never turn it down and cards aren’t going to shell out 20
Million on a reliever no matter how good they are cards will never take the risk of giving him QO and he accepts. So if they keep him he walks for nothing

Exactly. And, frankly, no reliever is worth $20 million. Next man up.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑03 May 2025 21:40 pmyScotchMIrish wrote: ↑03 May 2025 21:28 pm Why trade him for what likely would be peanuts instead of getting the draft pick for someone signing after he turns down the qualifying offer?

But that's the reason they must trade him. Get something for him.

Helsley was coming off a season like he did in 2024.
Not that he would exceed $20 million/yr , but he could exceed the total value by a decent amount.

There are some gems found in trading the proven veteran for prospects, I get that it can happen.riff raff wrote: ↑03 May 2025 14:10 pmWe could have gotten a haul in the offseason? I don't understand why people think that it happens very often. Sure a Soto can get a haul, but why think Fedde or a Helsley is automatically doing that.
Tampa doesn't even have that kind of record in their dealings.

Your predictions have been subpar lately.
Just like the unicorn, everything else you've
predicted has fallen apart.
Time for you to glance in the mirror.
Just a glance, because it will be hard to do
a full stare with an ego as big as yours.

What would you give in exchange for a mediocre reliever who is a pending free agent?Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑03 May 2025 21:40 pmyScotchMIrish wrote: ↑03 May 2025 21:28 pm Why trade him for what likely would be peanuts instead of getting the draft pick for someone signing after he turns down the qualifying offer?

Getting something for him would be better than getting nothing even if it’s no more than a decent relief pitcher prospect. Like I said Mo was dumb to not trade him in the offseason but he likes to wait until they have very little valueScotchMIrish wrote: ↑04 May 2025 08:09 amWhat would you give in exchange for a mediocre reliever who is a pending free agent?Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑03 May 2025 21:40 pmyScotchMIrish wrote: ↑03 May 2025 21:28 pm Why trade him for what likely would be peanuts instead of getting the draft pick for someone signing after he turns down the qualifying offer?
