Is Helsley going to turn to [shirt] like the others before we can even trade him?
He's starting to slide.
Losing infects all
It's a nasty plague that infects most players
Need to trade him before he goes off the
deep end.

It's why some of us insisted Moe focus on trading he and Fedde before the start of the season, instead of obsessing with Nado.

Dear God. Spare us your insightfulness.
We aren’t using Helsley often enough to keep him sharp right now. It was good that Oli trotted him out there in a meaningless game for an inning.
We need somebody useful in the pen to win a few games. These young players need to think some of the games are winnable. Mailing the games in won’t be productive.

No, he is not starting to slide.
Yes, losing (TOXIC CULTURE) has infected the entire organization.
Yes, it is hard for any closer to harness his customary aggressiveness to pitch the 9th in a blowout loss.
No, he can't be used correctly when working for a team which rarely provides save opportunities - and that problem will only continue to get worse as long as The Marmot is allowed to remain a dead man walking because his presence serves only to remind the team that winning is not the goal, not the expectation.
Yes, at this point STL needs to trade him since they ignored the opportunity to sign him to an extension last year - which would have been the CORRECT BASEBALL DECISION as I expertly advised at the time.

Being a player is like a muscle. Use it or lose it.

I correctly said it in the offseason . Relievers are rarely consistent. Josh hader one of the best in the game has had ERAs of 5.22 1.28 3.80 1.80 in the past four seasons Edwin Diaz 1.31 3.52 and 4.50. Helsely had 4 blown saves all of last season he wasn’t going to have a repeat season that good again especially since he has never thrown 50 or more innings in back to back seasons so given it was a very slim chance of repeating i correctly said he should have been traded in the offseason season. Instead now hes already blown 2 saves in just 6 chances and his value goes down by the day. Easy obvious correct he should have been traded but slow Mo again did not trade a player at peak valueMelville wrote: ↑03 May 2025 08:15 amNo, he is not starting to slide.

This! If I'm not mistaken, at one point a week or so ago Hels went around 9 or 10 games without pitching in a game at all. How is he supposed to be effective if he hardly ever sees the mound? Major cob webs in that arm!hugeCardfan wrote: ↑03 May 2025 07:32 am Dear God. Spare us your insightfulness.

No way does a team in transition or whatever the hell this is sign him to an extension.
Not playing for a legitimate contender for most if not all of the contract and in so doing perhaps pricing potential down the road trade partners out.
He is just a workable asset now and is not part of this team's future
There aren't going to be plentiful save opportunities to keep him sharp as a closer normally would be on a contender.
This extension talk is nonsense.

It’s dumb to sign a closer to an extension anyway11WSChamps wrote: ↑03 May 2025 10:04 am No way does a team in transition or whatever the hell this is sign him to an extension.

Especially for a team that isn't going to be contending for a few years.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑03 May 2025 10:08 amIt’s dumb to sign a closer to an extension anyway11WSChamps wrote: ↑03 May 2025 10:04 am No way does a team in transition or whatever the hell this is sign him to an extension.

One more time: Helsley has a history of being good one year, injured the next. The other teams know this. Oh sure, they were “interested”, at pennies on the dollar. Look what the Brewers got for Devin Williams: an inconsistent starter with personal problems and one year of control and a prospect not even in the Yankees’ Top 30. You guys would have crucified Mo for that return. Helsley’s value is not going down. There’s only one way for it to go and it’s up. If he stays healthy, he’ll get a better return than the Brewers got for Williams. As for Fedde, when teams can sign a Jose Quintana for $5 million, why would they give up much value for Fedde? The Cardinals need VALUE, not just SOMETHING for Helsley and Fedde. Both will be dealt at or before the deadline. The return WILL be greater than in the offseason.
For those who want Helsley signed to an extension, they can always re-sign him in the offseason.

Helselys value is going down. He had a great year only blew 4 saves and had an entire year of control left and you think his value will be up at the deadline now that he’s having a worse season than last season and will only have a few months of control left and the team that gets him won’t be able to offer a QO? lol must be fun to view the world through cardinals colored glassesRed7 wrote: ↑03 May 2025 10:37 am One more time: Helsley has a history of being good one year, injured the next.
