How much talking down of Julio Rodriguez did you need to do to get him for two guys you plucked from waivers?
Seriously… I’d like to hear why you think this is a fair trade.
I did not offer that trade. That trade was offered to me and I accepted.
That's wild. I want someone to offer me a first rounder for waiver guys!
I shared this with Quincy... I can see the reasoning of the deal from his perspective if I squint, but it's an awful deal for him on the surface simply based on he's moving his 1st round pick a month into the season for two guys that were available on waivers. He's selling a stock he bought for $100 for $15. You're buying his dump hoping it goes back to $100.
Julio... for what it's worth... is weird. He's a first round pick based on 2023 and September of 2024. He's too young to be regressing how he is, but his underlying metrics have certainly pulled back. Just my opinion, but the optics of the trade are bad mostly because of where he was drafted. I didn't have a first round grade on him and didn't target him on any of my 3 teams because I thought he was overvalued. Even if he's a 3rd rounder, though, this is a bad deal.
For the record, I am not vetoing the deal.
Under what circumstances do you think it’s appropriate to veto?
If it is nefarious in nature... ill-intentioned. Like a white flag trade that unfairly benefits a player in contention from someone who is deciding to quit on the league. That's the most obvious one.
Or if its just super unbalanced. You could make the argument that this one is toeing that line... and I think I told you that I didn't disagree with that opinion. But knowing that Julio's owner is the one that proposed the trade, he's making a bet that Julio is overvalued and trying to move him for guys that he perceives can meaningfully help his team.
Personally, if I owned Julio and was in the bottom half of the standings with his roster, I am NOT making that deal... I just understand the rationale, and I don't want to give people reasons to not try to trade.
To be clear, I think Matt is stealing Julio, but I also think Julio is overvalued based on being overdrafted everywhere.

Agree with J-Rod being overvalued… I felt similarly from the start of his career. I think the numbers he’ll put up are probably more along the lines of a Bobby Abreu, only with better defense. Not quite a superstar, but very good… and still very valuable in fantasy.

It's kind of wild that, right now, we don't have any teams between 102.5 and 81 pts.
With 8 teams over 100 points, it seems like we might have a more balanced league than last year. That is unless more teams start trading away their first round picks for waiver wire randos.
Two waiver wire pickups (Smith #78, Goodman #161) who have been more valuable so far this year than Rodriguez (#207) (or Soto (#193), Greene (#188), Turner (#187), Chapman (#212), etc.) so far this year.
So you wouldn’t have any qualms if I traded Wilmer Flores for Gunnar Henderson?

My squad had a horrific week... performance and losing guys to injury. Hopefully it won't get worse. Yordan, Ragans, Edman (IL), Hays (IL), Sanchez all got hurt and/or missed time. Nootbaar and Crews went 6-54 .
Gross. I was a little MIA for the last handful of days, didn't realize I dropped down to 7. Ugh.

Aroldis for Ragans!
Annnnd.... Yordan to the IL. Man, hits keep coming right now.
Ragans... preseason #32, 3rd round pick at #41 overall
for
Chapman... preseason #259, 15th round pick at #218 overall

It’s in keeping with the new league standards, though.

BTW, for the much-debated trade where I sent Goodman + P. Smith to Dirty for Rodriguez + Gorski, both P. Smith and Gorski have been dropped, so it is just Goodman for Rodriguez. Since May 3 when the trade happened:

New trade up:
Altuve, Munoz, and F. Cruz for McLain, Abbott, and C. Smith.
FWIW - after exploring other options, Trader offered me that deal and I accepted.
That’s an awful deal.
Altuve (4th round pick) PLUS the highest ranked closer in fantasy for sub-.200 hitting Matt McLain (6th rounder), a NON-CLOSER in Cade Smith, and a waiver wire pitcher?
1. Traded… dude, c’mon. What are you doing?
2. Full disclosure - I’ve vetoed for now.
