Well, April is gone and as we begin May what have we learned about our beloved home team? Some ideas, if I may?

1. Scott & Winn are exciting players who bring speed, defense, hitting, and enthusiasm to the table!

2. Burleson & Baker really don't belong on a decent MLB roster.

3. Libby can pitch! Who was our last decent Lefty starter?

4. Walker has made tremendous strides in the OF while still struggling to hit with consistency.

5. Our bullpen is not a team strength.

6. A healthy Noot is one helluva ballplayer.

7. Pages & Pozo are a decent catching tandem.

8. Herrera's bat plays...his arm behind the plate does not.

9. Saggese is a legit hitting prospect; still unsure where he may fit in defensively.

10. Oli is still a clown.

11. Gorman is now more suspect than prospect.

Good summary. I’ve got Walkers as suspect also. He has to hit and with power

I see his EV’s as awesome. But many hit into the ground. Just think at those ev’s how many doubles or triples he’d have. He doesn’t need to hit home runs they will come from putting a good swing on a double.

The back of the bullpen is below MLB level. The lack of depth in pitching, especially in the relief corps is concerning. Also, Cards need Herrera's power bat back . Ivan should be either catching or at DH in every game. It won't be long that the Cardinals will need to make room in the lineup for Saggese.

74-88 is their ceiling and floor

We're about a fifth of the way done with the season, and the Cardinals have 2 players on track to hit at least 20 home runs.

And Arenado is proving once again he is not a cleanup guy anymore. He's on track for about 15 HRs and 65 RBIs. And that .745 OPS sucks but ranks 3rd among the current starters. So I guess he's going to have to produce at cleanup because there is nobody else.

And as for the pitching, the bullpen is looking much closer to the bullpen of 2023 and much less like 2024's. Fedde and Mikolas look like the weak links in the rotation.

I’ll limit this to moves that the club should pursue this season

I doubt they can add a quality bat to the lineup. But they may be able to improve by subtraction - include 1 or 2 of Gorman, Burleson, or baker in a deal for bullpen help.

The starters have impressed me, but I’d like to see McGreevy, Matthew’s (when healthy) up here sooner rather than later. Give them the experience so they can take off in 2026.

If the bp improves, this team could approach a .500 level; if not, .400 is more likely.
