I mean it was great and all and I’m cautiously optimistic about the team still, but we’re 14-17. Win today and take back to back series vs NL Central teams and things would be getting closer. Hopefully they keep Contreras in the middle of the order now and I like Winn hitting 2nd (and it’s not just because of his success yesterday). We need to get Herrera back though and the offense should look much better then.

Sadly, if I'm not mistaken, only being 4 games under .500 on May 1 is an improvement on the previous 2 seasons.

Made me look. Turns out it's not as bad as you thought. There were 14-17 last year and 10-20 in the last place 2023, so same and way ahead this year. The team should aspire to the 93 win team of 2022 which were 12-9 after May 1.

The Cardinals managed 1 run today and no hits after the 3rd inning. So they beat up on some nobody in the 2nd game of the doubleheader and then didn't score a single run after he departed. And the Cardinals scored a total of 3 runs against their other 3 starters plus Ashcraft, whom they couldn't hit at all. Impressive.

But I will say this. The Cardinals starting pitching was pretty good. And the bullpen sucked again today as usual. Not that it mattered. They weren't going to score anyway.
