Thomas Is Potential Witness At Hockey Canada Sexual Assault Trial
Tuesday marked the first day of the sexual assault trial of former Hockey Canada world junior players Michael McLeod, Alex Formenton, Dillon Dube, Carter Hart and Cal Foote.
The five former NHL players are accused of sexually assaulting a woman in a London, Ont., hotel room following a Hockey Canada gala in June 2018. The woman’s identity is protected by a publication ban, and she was referred to as E.M. in court.
McLeod, Formenton, Dube, Hart and Foote are charged with one count each of sexual assault, while McLeod faces an additional count of being party to the offense.
The accused players each pleaded not guilty to the charges Tuesday morning.
After the “not guilty” pleas, Crown attorney Meaghan Cunningham read aloud a list of potential witnesses expected to testify during the trial. This list included multiple members of the 2018 world junior team, including some current NHL players competing in the Stanley Cup playoffs.
They include the Ottawa Senators’ Drake Batherson, Washington Capitals’ Taylor Raddysh, St. Louis Blues’ Robert Thomas, Dallas Stars’ Sam Steel, Vegas Golden Knights’ Brett Howden and Colorado Avalanche’s Cale Makar.
These players will be accommodated accordingly, likely through a live video feed if they are called upon to testify.

Not surprising that everybody on the team that was at that event would likely be called to testify. Even the guys not involved in the incident likely heard stories, saw pics or videos..etc.

Yep, makes sense Thomas would be a witness but they’ll allow him to do it via zoom. Sounds like they selected the jury yesterday (11 women, 3 men) and listed the witnesses. Makes sense Kyrou wouldn’t be on the witness list even though he was on the 2018 team - he was out of town for the event in question. That said, it said the list “includes” these players so I guess it’s possible it wasn’t the full list and there could be additional witnesses not listed in the article.Pierre McGuire wrote: ↑23 Apr 2025 06:41 am Not surprising that everybody on the team that was at that event would likely be called to testify. Trial is set to last 8 weeks. This will be a big story in the hockey world. Right at the same time as the playoffs. Hopefully won’t be a distraction for RT but he also needs to do his duty and answer the questions.

Is this the last breath from the #metoo movement? I don’t buy it. How many times in recent memory has these kind of things been completely made up to cover for an incident that never happen or one person’s regretful decision.

A word of advice - you should probably look into the details of this particular event before making such a flippant blanket statement. The prosecution apparently has videos of the incident. To automatically assume it was all just made up is quite honestly, pretty vile.Cardsfan1586 wrote: ↑23 Apr 2025 08:10 am Is this the last breath from the #metoo movement? I don’t buy it. Also, it's rare in a case like this to see all the defendants tried together. It's a sign that the prosecution is extra confident in their case, meaning they likely have a smoking gun.
Many of the defendants allegedly brought golf clubs to the room. Not their bags of clubs, as if to go golfing, but individual clubs, as if to use as impromptu weapons. Prosecutors likely have a witness or two to this particularly heinous fact

Yep. The guys apparently made a video of the incident. They apparently got the girl to say on tape it was consensual but how it’s been described is this video they made makes them look much more guilty than innocent. I haven’t seen it and don’t think I ever want to but her saying it was consensual apparently appears totally coerced, they bring in the gold clubs…yeah, it could be really bad for these 5 guys.Army's Mom wrote: ↑23 Apr 2025 10:00 amThis.STL fan in MN wrote: ↑23 Apr 2025 08:32 amA word of advice - you should probably look into the details of this particular event before making such a flippant blanket statement. If even to verify what time people left or what not or if they even saw people with the girl, it makes sense for all present to be witnesses no matter how minor. Whoever was in the room but not accused like the rumored pizza guy probably have the most to saySTL fan in MN wrote: ↑23 Apr 2025 08:07 amYep, makes sense Thomas would be a witness but they’ll allow him to do it via zoom. Yeah, I’m really hoping when the details come out on this thing that Thomas is as far away from it as possible. Like, he saw her with McLeod at the bar or heard about it the next day or something and that’s it.Wattage wrote: ↑23 Apr 2025 12:29 pmIf even to verify what time people left or what not or if they even saw people with the girl, it makes sense for all present to be witnesses no matter how minor. Not nearly as many times, and I mean the amount is staggering, as young, middle age and older women have been sexually molested, assaulted and/or raped by guys frat guys, hockey players, family members, strangers, I could go on all day. For every Duke lacrosse there are thousands of not duke lacrosse cases.Cardsfan1586 wrote: ↑23 Apr 2025 08:10 am Is this the last breath from the #metoo movement? I don’t buy it. I haven’t looked into this but I get why people wouldn’t believe it initially. As a former cop who investigated this stuff for over 10 years, 8/10 “grapes minus the g” were fictitious.STL fan in MN wrote: ↑23 Apr 2025 08:32 amA word of advice - you should probably look into the details of this particular event before making such a flippant blanket statement. Girl got pregnant by a black guy and didn’t want to tell parents
Girl slept with a “nerd” and had regret
Girl realized she was just a side piece
Girl wanted free cable so blamed the charter guy. (Yes this happened)
Girl wanted revenge
Nothing worse than a woman scorned and the amount of fathers who had to eat crow watching their daughter confess to lies on tape is madness.

Actually contrary to popular belief- women voting to convict more isnt always the case.Pierre McGuire wrote: ↑25 Apr 2025 09:46 amThat jury was made up of 11 women and 3 men and the judge was female as well. Pretty sure these guys are beyond guilty, especially McLeod but not sure you can get a fair trial in this kind of case with a jury of 11 women

Besides, all you neednis 1 juror for a hung jury.
