Snuggarud

Still 20 and played 20+ minutes in a very important contest.

He must be impressing and have trust.

That’s really impressive actually

He finally played a good to great game last night. Stealing pucks, passing well and finally showing his skill to score.

I wanted to bust him down to the 3rd line and instead Monty played him up again. He certainly has his finger on the pulse of his team.

One of the best players on this team. His ability to read the play and his decision making are some of the best I’ve seen for guy with just a handful of games played

He has some confidence. Kids smart, wants to be involved, top passer, and most importantly, isn't shy to shoot the puck.
If his accuracy on his shot is as good as it looks to be. We're going to be in good shape.

Him and Bolduc on a pp. Will be top in the league. For some time. If Bolduc stays around.

Glad he is getting a real opportunity, hope it continues. Also hope Bolduc will get the same. He deserves one. Maybe even more.

From his perspective he has watched two players he feels he's on par with (Cooley and Knies) go to the NHL and succeed. That's the baseline self confidence. Then he had to buck the desire of the franchise who drafted him and prove to them he was right for going this route. If he had been thrust into the NHL last year, no playoff games of course, but he wouldn't know inside himself he'd done all the extra work he set out for his checklist this season. The better his game looks on arrival the more credit for a mature decision we have to give him because a lot of voices were pushing him last year and while his D+1 and D+3 were outstanding years his D+2 was more of a struggle.

I like what I've seen. He's got good instincts and feel for the game.

That said i couldn't help but wonder how strong a team really is when you have a rookie still getting acclimated playing such a big role in the playoffs.

Even if you say they're not as deep/strong right now, it's also hard to make definitive conclusions when it's spring 2025 and you have five key players who were drafted in the first round between 2019-2022.

Broberg
Holloway
Neighbours
Bolduc
Snuggs

then also, 2023:
A top two scoring center – Dvorsky
A top four defenseman – Lindstein
A swiss army knife top 9 forward – Stenberg

Then there's also Stancl Pekarcik and Burns from this 2023 draft.

Snuggie played fantastic and was probably the best skater on the team last night.

And there lies the problem

Snuggy has exceeded my expectations. He’s adapted quicker and better than I expected. I saw a likely 2RW with a wicked shot in time but if he can develop into more than that then that’d be awesome.

Oh for sure. Snuggy is doing fantastically given his age and experience level but he’s a pretty huge downgrade from this season’s version of Holloway. And it absolutely highlights a lack of depth that he was getting 2nd line minutes to start the playoffs and then thrust onto the top line last night. I really like Snuggerud’s future but it’s simply true that a Cup caliber team should have better options for that important of a role than a kid that was playing college hockey a couple weeks ago.

Who ever claimed THIS is a Cup caliber team? They might still prove to be but they are a long shot at best.

Snuggerud IS depth. That said, he would be playing now even if Holloway were healthy.

Nobody backfills a Holloway without losing performance.

That’s my point. This year’s Blues team isn’t a Cup caliber team. Not without a ton of luck and almost every player playing well above their current caliber.

Perhaps Snuggerud would still be playing on a deeper team but perhaps not. Maybe more the role Thomas had in ‘19 but it’s hard to say. But it’s telling to me that he’s easily passed Texier and Joseph already in the eyes of Monty.

Maybe I'm blind, but Bolduc hasn't shown much in the series. Enlighten me.

For sure! He is going to be special. Hockey sense is off the charts.

Gotta take his linemates into consideration if we are looking at him not even getting opportunities offensively. Sunny is not much of a playmaker.
