Game, set, match. Our best recruiter. Defections making more sense. HCG days are numbered.

I wont go that far. But this creates some upheaval while the TP is opening up replacing 3 different coaches with CY being his right hand man . He has made good moves so far with upgrades at each lost players position that has transferred out or was out of eligibility. But needs two SG/Wings . Mitchell and Robinson will both be Double digit scorers along with Mack. I expect Mitchell will be an 17 ppg guy with 7 boards per as well. Robinson 13, 5 and 6 at his position and Mack 12 and 4.Mizzoufan443 wrote: ↑15 Apr 2025 10:20 am Game, set, match. Our best recruiter. Defections making more sense. HCG days are numbered.

I was going to respond to some of the idiotic comments, but I will be the sensible one here just for a minute. What's the sense of C Y being here if they don't have any money that people on here won't talk about for some reason. Don't forget that Ant Robinson is from Florida and was brought here by C Y.

They have money. Just being WISE about using it. 3 Seasons ago they got a lot of so called B players and did OKAY. Gates is saving his Gunpowder for what he needs and can afford. Not trying for a 5 star with a knee injury that would take all of his funding away.TheMajicMan wrote: ↑15 Apr 2025 11:23 am I was going to respond to some of the idiotic comments, but I will be the sensible one here just for a minute. Re: Bye-bye CY!
How are so many of you commenting on how much or how little NIL money Mizzou basketball has, yet nobody has provided evidence of what the actual number is?
Re: Bye-bye CY!
CY leaving is no bigger actually as while he was supposed to be a great recruiter besides ant what have his players done? course he along with whole staff suck at actually coaching CBB and with the awful job Gates is doing in replenishing roster when they finish in bottom third of league and talent wise they are BOTTOM of SEC at this time. With little ability to actually coach up his kids and his top two assistants gone doesn't look good for Tigers BB next year. Could see AD replacing him if he has another awful year as he is NOT a bigtime coach nor is he his guy.

It's all predicated on his DRF buyout. Right now, it's $16.5 MM. Way too rich for a change

That's a little dramatic.Mizzoufan443 wrote: ↑15 Apr 2025 10:20 am Game, set, match. Our best recruiter. Defections making more sense. HCG days are numbered.
There's bound to be a hungry up and comer with SEC ties in the coaching network that Gates can entice to a program that has just made the tournament and plays in the best conference in CBB.
Gates has had a measure of success, fans come to the games something they didn't do before and it would cost a fortune to simply fire him.
I don't see Gates going anywhere for at least 2 years.
Re: Bye-bye CY!
Gates has his own coa hing tree going on. He has had a few guys on his staff leave to take head coaching jobs in the MM's. That's a great thing.
CY leaving has nothing to do with what's happening at Mizzou or Gates, tho he has Gates blessing. Here is why.
Gates and CY both coached as assistance at FLA. ST. CY had previous head coaching experience in the MMs even b4 he got to FLA St. While at Fla St, Gates told CY he would bring him with him one day to help him coach the team. Gates gets hired at Mizzou, a major college program and asked CY to come help him..as an associate and sorta mentor seeing tho Gates did coach at a MM, he still wanted CYs experience. So that's why CY was there....sorta to help and mentor.
So now CY, who is well known down in Miami is asked to help out another coach...one who is sorta wet behind the ears more so than Gates was.
He is hired as the associate head coach, the same position he had at Mizzou. His experience as well as his popularity from the Miami area is need to help and mentor the young rookie coach. So this is a great thing for CY and makes Gates look good as well.
But wait ....there is possibly more to this story.
It has already been said...CY and Gates as well as Mizzou knew about this move weeks ago. There is speculation that Marcus Allen also knew about this. Move with CY. Allen is from Florida and was recruited by ...you guessed it...CY! So ...word out in the wild is that Allen was asked by CY after he, CY...getting the approval from Gates, if he could approach Allen with the offer.
So this is all speculation at this point, but if Allen winds up in his home state school...then we know why, and that Allen's departure had nothing to do with him being unhappy at Mizzou and more so of going to play at his home state school. If he doesn't go to Miami, well he was unhappy at Mizzou for whatever reason. From what I know, Allen wanted to be a wing and not a small 4. Annor is the wing.

I hope it is true.
Allen is a good defensive player but his offense game is non existent. He never really fit in with Mizzou's type of play.
If Allen commits to Miami, your story will explain everything.
Re: Bye-bye CY!
Its only speculation at this point. But Allen did go to high school at Northland High School down in Miami! He's a Miami kid.....why wouldn't he want to play at home and play for CY? Plus, Miami has a great NIL (Florida St was broke and had one of the worse NIL in big time ball) and his fam is there. But as I said B4...its all speculation at this point.straight out of st louis robert ave wrote: ↑16 Apr 2025 18:06 pmWhat you say makes sense.Rantz wrote: ↑16 Apr 2025 16:41 pm Gates has his own coa hing tree going on. Re: Bye-bye CY!
Mizzou appears to be following the trend to hiring a General Manager (head of recruitment).
The University of Missouri Tigers men's basketball program is currently seeking to hire its first-ever general manager. The position, which will be new to the program, will be responsible for tasks like overseeing talent acquisition, managing the NIL process, recruiting, and roster management. The job posting indicates the general manager will report directly to head coach Dennis Gates.
With NIL and players bouncing around like ping pong balls from team to team many head coaches are opting to off load the recruitment headache to others similar to a company having an Human Resources department for talent acquisition. Gates may soon be able to say “get me a top line center with an emphasis on rebounding and a guard with excellent defensive skills” and concentrate his own efforts on coaching and teaching. That would lessen the reliance of a coach like Charlton Young (an excellent recruiter).
For all those who appear to be all knowing about Mizzou basketball and what Gates should and should not be doing with respect to player personnel (recruitment and NIL deals) I highly encourage you to share your infinite knowledge with Gates and apply for this open position. However, if your last name is not “Porter” you may have difficulty in being chosen for this position.
P.S. Can we all limit our acronym usage?
