Ugly stats to chew on

Post by Lloyd Braun »

Cardinals are 9-14. They've started 9-13 for three straight seasons since 2023.

The Cardinals are 1-10 on the road. It's the worst start since 1997 when they lost their first 6 games of the year away from home and started 2-8 on the road.

The Cardinals were 3-0, when Mikolas made his first start. They've gone 6-14 since.

The Cardinals are 0-4 when Mikolas starts and have been outscored 32-16. He has given up 15 earned runs in 17.2 innings and has failed to make it out of the 5th inning in 2 of his 4 starts. In 3 of his starts he has 10 swings and misses total combined. (2,4 and 4). That's almost impossible today. For context, the Mets' starter on Monday had 13 swings and misses in 5.1 innings. It takes Mikolas 4 games to get to that total.

Donovan is on pace for 225 hits and over 50 doubles. However... he has made bonehead plays in the field and on the bases (all late in games), that have contributed strongly to 4 of our 13 losses already. Even our best players suck fundamentally at the game of baseball, and contribute to our losses.

Ryan Fernandez has given up hits in 9 straight outings with as many walks as strikeouts. They are 2-7 in those 9 games.

Cardinals are 0-4 in 1 run games
Cardinals are 0-4 in extra inning games

Cardinals are 4-1 in blowout games with a +15 run differential. They are 5-13 in all other games. Do NOT dare ask the players or manager Oli Marmol to win a close game.

Munoz needs to return to help the bullpen.

Isn’t 1-10 worse than 2-8?

That’s the point. 1-10 is worse than 2-8. So it’s actually not the worst since 97. It’s worse.

If you go to a restaurant and something ugly is served to you, you don’t chew on it. So why chew on ugly stats here? Does it serve a purpose?

Oh, I don't know. To help explain a 9-14 record? Just guessing. We know you don't like ugly truths.

I'm afraid you're right...the numbers are what they are and apparently some people have an issue with that...it would seem easier to ignore a thread that you don't like...but some people.....

This is a baseball chat forum, designed primarily to discuss Cardinal baseball...the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Sure, there are bright spots to discuss. Why...I myself started a thread on the emergence of Libby just the other day. I've also commented on the drastic improvement Walker has made in RF. However, I can't pretend that there is not, once again this season, more bad & ugly to discuss than good!

The biggest issue has been bullpen failure. I did not expect them to be as good as last year but I sure didn't expect them to be this bad.

Herrera still leads the team in homers and is second in rbi.

Oh, and he only had 21 at bats.

Worst since 1960, when they started 0-10 on the road, according to google.
