Same here. Lots to build off. Lived the grit and effort and standing up for each other.zamadoo wrote: ↑19 Apr 2025 20:00 pmDid you watch any of the game? Regardless, our boys played a hell of a game against the Presidents Trophy winners.
53 hits - 1 less than our team record in the playoffs. 57% on the draw. 2/3 ont he PP. 1/4 on the PK.
Scraped into the playoffs with a historic 12 game winning streak and narrowly lost to the Presidents Trophy winners in Game 1.
It was a hell of a game and I enjoyed all of it.
I do think they sat back with the lead more so than the jets got to their game. They also slowed the hits. A few lessons learned. Jake and Bolduc with a couple undisciplined penalties to learn from. Jets also had a fluke first goal.
For a loss this team was in it until the end.

Even with the win .. it wasn't because of their goaltender. The Vezena winner was remarkably average and played timid and deep in the net. The Blues know they can score off of him when they generate a chance. That is confidence booster.
A lot of young guys experiencing their first playoff game. It was very obvious that they started playing not to lose instead of keeping their foot on the gas. This is when you battle through.
Neighbors got under their skin. Not surprised. He's a western kid.
Bolduc got a few licks in, but got caught up in it and took a bad penalty.
Snuggeraud looked tentative when it started getting tight in the second.
Walker was a beast out there, and I'm sure he and Neighbors will be the top villians moving forward.
Every young guy in that room knows they can play much better.

Sure, it sucked to lose but looking at this objectively, The Blues did not play poorly today. They held a lead against the top seed and nearly took Game 1 minus a few hiccups. The expectation of Winnipeg far exceeds ours to win in the playoffs. At some point they will either feel despair (highly likely) or celebrate their first cup win. As for the Blues, this is bonus hockey with a bright future ahead. It feels good when you have nothing to lose but play spoiler. Also, the Blues didn’t just stop playing in the 3rd. It’s the quality of the opposition that turned it up.

Let’s all pat ourselves on the back for grit and effort while Winnipeg enjoys having won the game.Bluesfan1978 wrote: ↑19 Apr 2025 20:34 pmSame here. Lots to build off. What sorts of things would you like us to post, forum boss? Should we whine and moan for all eternity? Will that somehow change the outcome of this completed game?desertrat23 wrote: ↑19 Apr 2025 20:43 pmLet’s all pat ourselves on the back for grit and effort while Winnipeg enjoys having won the game.Bluesfan1978 wrote: ↑19 Apr 2025 20:34 pmSame here. Let's place this into perspective..
Even with a terrible performance in the third period, it was a one goal game. Winnipeg had 1 fluke goal tipped off of Suter's stick, and a goofy bounce off the side of the net that let to the tying goal. Meanwhile, the Blues scored 2 clean goals off Hellebyuck. They know he can be scored on.
In the meantime, Binnington left the Jets shaking their heads more than a few times.
For many young guys this was their first Stanley Cup playoff game. There were some very good lessons learned. This should still be a long series.

I didn't think either team played very well, they played hard but not very well IMO.LongIsland BluesFan wrote: ↑19 Apr 2025 20:41 pm Sure, it sucked to lose but looking at this objectively, The Blues did not play poorly today. I've seen plenty of talk about what went wrong. It's also ok to point out the positives. There has been a fair balance of both.desertrat23 wrote: ↑19 Apr 2025 21:00 pmNo. Have a Joe Strauss Balloon Party if it makes you feel better. Really not a good game for Jim Montgomery considering the noise that consistently follows him in the postseason.
Team is making a lot of young mistakes which is unfortunate considering the age and experience of our defense and most of our offensive lines. Goes to show you how critical it is to get competitive games out of guys like Thomas, Kyrou, buchnevich, Schenn and neighbors. Team will o my go as far as theta group goes collectively.

We're seeing the same thing Harry. Snuggerud has been playing like the puck is a hot potato, especially yesterday. I'm not sure if he's scared to eff up or if he's trying to avoid the contact that comes with handling the puck. He's not strong on his skates at this point and is getting knocked off the puck or on hisass too much, but he's young so it's sort of expected.Harry York 37 wrote: ↑19 Apr 2025 20:12 pmI understand Bolduc was piszed off. I understand the opponent is a diver. Bolduc can’t do what he did in that situation. Monty sat him for a shift. I hope he learned.
Snuggy was lost and didn’t seem to ever want the puck. I hope he learned.
That's why I wasn't particularly bothered by Bolduc's penalty. Yes it was stupid and one he shouldn't have taken, but he's showing a mean streak. His skill is beyond question but he could be the kind of Kadri-like agitator this team desperately needs. He should be playing on the second line with Kyrou and Schenn instead of Snuggerud. He's earned it.
Longer-term with this team, I still have my eye on if we're going to need to add a couple of players with size down the line. I like that Buchnevich was playing up to his size delivering checks and players like Neighbours are willing scrap, but when Jake is almost half a foot smaller than his dance partner it's not ideal. I've been hoping to see some flashes of Neighbours' feistiness in Snuggerud, but it hasn't happened yet. Time will tell.

With how Tennative Snuggerud was on the wall in his own zone to try and chip the puck out I’m guessing he has one more game to improve or else Texier will sub into that position.
Re: GDT: Blues at Jets 5:00 CBC, TVAS, SN, TNT, truTV, MAX, FDSNMW
If the Blues had played the 3rd like the first two we were a 50-50 on winning that game which is great considering who we are playing. If we play 3 periods like the first and lose then we are going home. Lots of good in the game. Considering the first part of the season I was happy to hang in and the Jets fans were awfully quiet for long stretches which was great.
I would keep pounding them even though they like to dive. Binner played great- one goal off our stick and one tip from the slot- not going to stop those. He was getting in their heads- especially Connor. Buch has to play better and stop turning it over.
