If Burleson doesn't "heat up" the bat in this Atlanta series
Against three RHP starting pitchers. This long-time Burly supporter becomes officially very concerned about his possible demise as a MLB hitter. Right now, I still have some confidence that he'll come out of it.

Well it’s a sad day for ya. But you may be right. At least you honest about your druthers.

Then you can just trade him for pitching

Yorkie, discussing the situation of the #5 hitter/DH is more relevant to Cardinals baseball than you seem to realize. If you don't feel that way. Just don't participate.

Not sure why Burleson is always the issue when they have guys that are clearly hitting worse

So there's a chance your Red Sox scout-buddy was wrong about Burly? Are you saying Burly may not be a doubles machine? Is it possible he's not Joey Votto or Tony Gwynn? Could it be that he's not as athletic as Tommy Edman?
The good news is he can't get much worse. He's bound to improve at some point. But seriously...even with a bump in improvement, he has serious power limitations, speed limitations, and defensive limitations. At his very, very best he's good for 20 doubles & 20 HR during the season. Unfortunately, it appears pitchers figured him out last summer and he's incapable of making adjustments.
A modern day Joe Hague.

I've heard the Yankees offered a pallet of athletic tape and a dozen torpedo bats for Burly.

They don't have a lot of guys hitting worse. And Burly has one tool...he can hit...or is supposed to hit. What's worse is he's in a key RBI slot night after night and has 6 RBI on the season.vegascardsfan5890 wrote: ↑21 Apr 2025 10:43 am Not sure why Burleson is always the issue when they have guys that are clearly hitting worse
Could he improve? Absolutely! He could get hot any day now! I hope he's a beast against the Braves. But until he gets hot he needs to hit lower in the lineup because he's killing us right now.

But those worse hitters actually field a position and the team doesn't need Bumblesvegascardsfan5890 wrote: ↑21 Apr 2025 10:43 am Not sure why Burleson is always the issue when they have guys that are clearly hitting worse

His only use is to hit because hes too slow to pinch run and cant field and he cant hit so he is useless a big day for him offensively is 1-4 with a singlevegascardsfan5890 wrote: ↑21 Apr 2025 10:43 am Not sure why Burleson is always the issue when they have guys that are clearly hitting worse

I think Burleson probably gets more grief than he deserves.
2024- After a strong/encouraging first half he has basically plateaued/cratered.
He appears to be a platoon LH bat.
Plays a respectable 1B and you can “get by” with him playing corner OF in short stints.
Translation? Role player.
NOT a regular #5 hitter.

You only get by in OF in short stint based on the hope the little white ball don’t find him. Not enough reward for even that risk.Cusecards wrote: ↑21 Apr 2025 11:20 am I think Burleson probably gets more grief than he deserves.

Ok. An emergency role in LF could be covered by several others before I’d do Burleson. But to your point, yes he would suffice in that role.Cusecards wrote: ↑21 Apr 2025 11:31 amEmergency rolesikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑21 Apr 2025 11:25 amYou only get by in OF in short stint based on the hope the little white ball don’t find him. But again that one time event ain’t enough for the return. The return being a roster spot not named number 26.

Is it true that Contreras is NOT the best hitter on the Cardinals team?Monsieur De Treville wrote: ↑21 Apr 2025 10:50 amSo there's a chance your Red Sox scout-buddy was wrong about Burly? I'm hoping he doesn't get an at bat in this series.
