Even it up tonight, boys

Post by BrummerStealsHome »

This is a marathon, not a sprint. A few bounces the other way and game 1 could have been ours. A win tonight shifts the home ice advantage to the Blues in a best-of-5. I love this game.

Yup…need to even it up…or face the reality of trying to win 4 out of 5 against the top team in the league to stay alive. But no true advantage happens in a series until you lose on home ice. So keep the faith…either way.

The Blues showed they can play with the Jets but man the Blues need to clean up their play. Dont take stupid penalties and by far the most important thing i took away from Game 1, Blues must have clean zone exits and Blues need to be able to get the puck in deep and forecheck. When the Jets started to pressure the Blues failed to connect on zone exits and failed to make good plays in the neutral zone. This has been going on aside from the winning streak more or less all year. Is it lack of skill or experience?
I like the Blues chances if they can play a more consistent game, easier said then done in the toughest building in the league this year. Play hard and smart continue to hammer the Jets and lets take our shot

Bolducs penalty was honestly the most bone headed penalty of the season

Can't make clean zone exits if you aren't winning puck battles in the Dzone. All of our Dmen can make good exit passes or carry the puck out especially Broberg and Parayko if he is 100%.

I think Parayko had a tough game in Game 1, recall the Jets PP, face off win and Parayko has time and space behind Binnie but kinda weakly cleared it right to a Jet. There were a ton of bad passes coming out of the zone and esp in the neutral zone. Those end up staying in the zone or Jets coming in hot. Faulk and Broberg were pretty good true enough. Chalk a lot of it up to the Jets there were the best defensive and home team in the NHL

It probably was.

Now, he, the team, and Monty must adapt with the Goldfish Memory and move on.

One thing Bolduc has proved beyond any doubt is that he is a dedicated worker who wants to learn. He might have a monster series from here on out.

I would go so far as to suggest that Bolduc should learn that you get hit sometimes and it should be a penalty and they don't call it, but if you react immaturely in the playoffs it hurts your whole team. It's the "oh yeah I'll put one in the morgue!" it's how you lose your mud and lose, it's weak. Instead I'd say you take a step back, realize it's going to happen, don't react, but look for opportunities to get the other team to react and take a dumb penalty. Now maybe I haven't had enough man on man rough contact and touching to know better but that's my take.

Need to plant that seed of doubt into Winnipeg's heads. That "here we go again" vibe.

Make no mistake - they know what they are up against. I saw a few eyes to the rafters after a couple of Binnington saves. Jets had ample Grade A chances. They all saw what he did in 4 Nations. This isn't over. Not by a longshot. We'll see a couple of OT games in this series before all is said and done.

This is absolutely true. I rewatched the whole sequence leading up to his dumb crosscheck and it looked like he may have been clipped in the face earlier on the PP. He was then clearly on tilt as he was hacking and slashing for a solid 40 seconds before he headed back to the bench and then cross checked the guy. Cant do that. Take a number and move on. Need to be more disciplined.

That said, I absolutely hope Monty doesn’t punish him by playing him less or God forbid scratching him. I’m sure Bolduc knows he screwed up. Just let him play and see if learns. He seems very coachable so to me, he’s the type of player I’d give a longer leash to.

I mean our forwards mad a LOT of bad passes in the 2nd half of the game.

Everything that happens in this series is counting on our boys winning four games to eliminate the Jets. All the stats, etc. don't mean anything if we win four games. It can happen at the beginning, middle or the end of the series. No doubt our boys can win four games out of seven.

It was dumb for sure, but the Blues killed it off.

What hurt more was their repeated inability to clear from the D zone.

That and going into a shell once they were up by a goal. Both were equally boneheaded.
