If people have been paying attention I would think Donovan isn't a complete surprise.
Guy had a pretty good season last year.

The opening day reaction to Mo.
Re: Cardinals bright spots, so far, this season
Bright spots? The rotation, Donovan, Herrera, and Saggese. They will need Herrera when Donovan and Saggese eventually regress from their hot starts.

Re: Cardinals bright spots, so far, this season
I was actually referring to players that were more surprises. But, yesiree', Donovan has really shined.Monsieur De Treville wrote: ↑20 Apr 2025 15:42 pmTo b fair, the Subject Of this thread stated "bright spots"...11WSChamps wrote: ↑20 Apr 2025 15:14 pm If people have been paying attention I would think Donovan isn't a complete surprise.

Then why does your Subject Line state, "Re: Cardinals bright spots, so far, this season"?Shady wrote: ↑20 Apr 2025 16:14 pmI was actually referring to players that were more surprises. My bad. I guess I need to spell things out better for nitpickers. But, you make a good point on the bright spots, in general. Donovan has been the brightest of the bright spots.Monsieur De Treville wrote: ↑20 Apr 2025 16:46 pmThen why does your Subject Line state, "Re: Cardinals bright spots, so far, this season"?Shady wrote: ↑20 Apr 2025 16:14 pmI was actually referring to players that were more surprises. When you write "bright spots", but really mean "surprises"...that's not nitpicking. That's me responding to what you actually wrote...I'm not The Amazing Kreskin...I can't always know when you write something you mean something else!Shady wrote: ↑20 Apr 2025 16:53 pmMy bad. Or you could do the decent thing and not make a big deal out of it. Why not just politely just give your opinion on whom you consider the "bright spots" and let it be?Monsieur De Treville wrote: ↑20 Apr 2025 19:51 pmWhen you write "bright spots", but really mean "surprises"...that's not nitpicking. Why did you have to tell me when you wrote "bright spots" you really meant "surprises". Heck, I was responding to another poster and you stuck your nose where it didn't belong and in typical ShadyButter style, made a fool of yourself!Shady wrote: ↑20 Apr 2025 20:43 pmOr you could do the decent thing and not make a big deal out of it. Love Saggese. He only just turned 23.redbirdfan51 wrote: ↑20 Apr 2025 15:07 pmWalker's defense has improved greatly and decent job as a hitter. Hopefully his hitting will continue to a improve. Herrera's strong start is encouraging along with Donovan having such a great start. Libby is finally living up to what the organization expected. Saggese is an absolute keeper.11WSChamps wrote: ↑20 Apr 2025 13:49 pm Libby, Pages, Saggese, Nootbar (healthy), Leahy If he's not worked to death..Scott showing some promise although he's cooled off (now time for adjustments)..

No one else can draw conclusions after 20 games—except you? I want to see more data points on JW, NG and VS2. I’m about done with AB, and Baker, but not entirely.scoutyjones2 wrote: ↑20 Apr 2025 13:46 pmYeah....no. making all this up after 20 games.Talkin' Baseball wrote: ↑20 Apr 2025 13:36 pm It looks like a whole different offense (for the better) compared to last year. Also, for a reset season a big part of the purpose is to sort out the roster and see what they are and are not. Early returns say Herrera and Saggese are hitters. Contreras can play first base. Scott can hit major league pitching enough to stay on the field. Pages can hit enough to be in the lineup consistently.
Liberatore can be a starter. Walker can play defense well enough to stay in RF. Still waiting to see if Walker will hit for power, if Gorman will hit with any consistency at all, what the heck can you do with Burleson, or if Herrera will be good enough defensively to remain at catcher. Answer as many of these questions this year as you can.
Look at these last 3...and today
The brief blip is over
Bumbles, JW, UniKKKorn all can't hit. Pages had his moment and is meh. VS2 is sinking

Re: Cardinals bright spots, so far, this season
I was not impressed at all w/Saggese when I first saw him last season, even called him JAG.
But the kid has really opened my eye's, to me he's the "bright spot" among the hitters.
On the pitching side like many I've been skeptical Libby had the pitches to get out RHH'ers as a starter, thought he'd be a great MRP the rest of his career.
But C. Bloom inserting him into the rotation the end of STing, rather than letting Mo/Oli keep him in the pen', makes Libby the pitching "bright spot".
Call all change w/the SSS, but these are my two bright spots of the early season.
