Idiotic. But I blame Mozeliak mainly for letting Oli play his fave. Burly needs to go.

Should have tried JW
Was thinking at the time if Jordan Walker may bat for Gorman.. right handed bat
Guess besides you and me there were others thinking the same possibility at the time.

Lost 2 games to the angels and one of the games against the Pirates. But tonight was an offensive disaster and a master class in failing with RISP. Personally, I wouldn’t put this one on him.
I think it's more like just a general feeling that there's just a constant repeat of bad patterns among the players especially as far as road play has gone, and there's very little done about it.

Right now I don't know, maybe the play is just now evening out with where our talent is, especially with our best slugger (Herrera) out, and it's just one of those things we gotta accept at this point. On the other hand, I feel like there is more talent and capability than what is being put on display out there. I won't go as far as saying Oli deliberately holds the guys back, but he doesn't really do anything to help these various situations.

Who would have guessed that no pressure contract extension wouldn’t have panned out, and suddenly make a competent manager?…..

Maybe another one, Mo?

At this point, ride it out with Mo and oli. Surely to goodness, Bloom has a plan ready to be implemented. I will be surprised and disappointed if 2026 is status quo.

In a perfect world, BDW allows Bloom to sign one or two difference makers this winter. I know....not going to happen.

Very often ( or should I say 'most often' ) in a variety of pro sports when a new GM , POBO or whatever the title takes the reins of an organization, the FO makes a head coach/managerial change on the field. The new GM wants his own guy in that spot . Someone who connects with his own philosophy plus , the new guy wants a fresh start with the new regime.
So more than Oli's performance this year , I think Bloom may make a managerial change for new blood running the team. Get a new voice in the clubhouse for the guys. Shake things up a bit.

If Bloom does want a change, I would think he would release Oli fairly quickly after the final game . Oli walks away with a year's salary for 2026 he is due. Of course there will be speculation on Pujols/Yadi but Bloom may go another route wanting no ties to the Cardinal past .
Will be interesting for sure.

Isn't this about the 300th "Fire Marmol!" thread?

Why would they change managers now, with new brass coming for next season? They'll start fresh with their own people and let Oli wear Gen. Custer's Arrow shirt for this season's rebuild.

Has anyone in the media asked Marmol why he continues to put big slow guys in the second spot in the batting order?

It reminds me of Jack Buck's quip when Dave LaPoint stood on second base with Jack saying "It will take at least a triple to score LaPoint."

Re this current lineup, Luken Baker would come in third in a footrace with a pregnant woman. If he walks or hits a single with less than two outs, just go ahead and write GIDP on your scorecard for the next hitter.

I could see riding it out this season. You have Yadi and Albert managing in the WBC...

They pick from there. Skips even a coach for one of them...I think Albert

I guess you go to Walker to force the Mets hand??
Walker not exactly killing it!
I think Oli needs to take the George Costanza approach?
Think of what to say or do and then say or do the opposite???
Of course. Burleson has sucked. Walker not much better but leaving Burleson to face a LHP when he has a career .244 OBP vs LHP might be the stupidest move ever by a manager in a 2-0 game.
I know the Cards need to improve talent to be a serious contender.
However.....if you can’t see that he is in over his head then I give up!
Serious question- what positive quality does Marmol bring to this team??
Yeah, and I get that there are some things like youth and inexperience that account for some things like a team struggling on the road and all. But then there's moves that are done that are just flush rinse and repeat and have constant heads knocking on the wall that our managers just keep doing even though they have a zero % success rate. Feel like our managers just keep doing the latter.

On the one hand it's only April, and baseball can certainly be a streaky sport. But gonna have to lower expectations again for this year I think because the overall pattern is still one step forward with two steps back.

Well, fire Marmol now .... yeah we'll all feel better for a while but it won't change anything as far as our season goes. But if we finish with a losing record and have little or no road series wins, he definitely has to go then because we can't afford to keep having these crazy what if games at the rate that we are.
Unless Marmol has totally “lost” the players he will not and should not be fired now.
Hopefully Bloom and the FO have the eye on a potential replacement and they will probably wait until the offseason.
It is always way more on the players not performing.
Down the stretch in close games:
Too many walks given up
Undisciplined AB’s
Poor base running
Mental mistakes

A manager can always be judged in hindsight.
I remember TLR getting roasted and he made the HOF!
However.....over his 4 years....while watching a game how many times do you think?
Good move Oli
vs
Bad move Oli
I just don’t see him bringing anything POSITIVE to the table.
One positive for Oli: he’s not as bad at his job as Pop Warner is at his!

It’s a rebuild. Oli has to see who can and who can’t in high leverage situations.

When Bloom takes over next season we likely will get a new manager unless Marmol gets them to the playoffs this season. I think the problems are bigger than the manager.
