Goldschmidt's hot start

Re: Goldschmidt's hot start
Lineups need more than two good hitters. Wait to see how well Arenado does when traded to the Phillies or Dodgers. He will hit well as they have a number of “aircraft carriers” in the lineup.
Re: Goldschmidt's hot start
Cardinals were ABSOLUTELY correct to move on from him. He did not perform last two years.

Re: Goldschmidt's hot start
I suspect Goldy's underperformance the last 2 seasons, like Arenado's, had more to do with the organization's level of disfunction than it did with real physical decline. I believe the loss of Yadi so dismantled particularly the pitching system, as well as leaving a huge void in leadership, led to both of them maybe losing hope, which got in their heads, and led to their dismal showings.
I think they also both just needed at least one of the two of them to perform, which would have helped the other perform, just cause it works that way. The chemistry wasn't optimal. I said it then, and, I'll say it again, even if I'm later proven wrong, that talent like the level both Goldy and Arenado have, doesn't just fall off a cliff, barring injury. It happens, always, eventually, but, not overnight, gradually, over a 2 to 4 year period, IMO.
I wanted the Cardinals to sign Goldschmidt to a 2-3 year extension, and, although I understand why they didn't, I feel it's a shame a great player like him won't get to retire a Cardinal.

Re: Goldschmidt's hot start
Yes, it was the equivalent of a one year deal. He could have been hellbent on producing last year to get another contract. Works the same wayDRoss wrote: ↑19 Apr 2025 14:15 pmNo. He was in the last season of a multi-year contract.
Now that he's experienced an season that set his value nowhere close to the last year of his Cards contract, it could be he's hellbent on producing the entire season to get another contract or better contract for next year.

That paints a pathetic picture of Goldy.DewittDaman11 wrote: ↑19 Apr 2025 17:03 pm I suspect Goldy's underperformance the last 2 seasons, like Arenado's, had more to do with the organization's level of disfunction than it did with real physical decline. Re: Goldschmidt's hot start
I am happy for Goldy and wish him well the rest of his career.

Are u serious...u talking his whole career?Vacardfan1964 wrote: ↑19 Apr 2025 10:32 am Goldy is nothing more than a complimentary player. He does best when he can stay in the shadows of true stars. He did it in 2022 when AP did his farewell tour and now with Judge. Wait til the big limelight games...
... he'll fold like a card house.

I rather have Herrera at first than Goldschmidt or Contreras
