Mikolas not horrible
But not terribly effective either.
Sure he didnt get bombed with runs, but he didnt fool anyone. Also, he couldn't make 5 innings.
It's sad when we are relieved at his last two games, rather than encouraged.

Re: Mikolas not horrible
Its ridiculous your veteran starting pitcher is being taken out of a 2-2 game with two outs in the 5th inning.
The manager has to ask himself is his starting pitcher better than the back half of his bullpen..if he isn't he shouldn't be in the rotation in the first place.
This routine of going through 4-5 pitchers a game is not a recipe for success.

Especially when some aren’t reliable at all. Would have been good game for matz but hes in rotation now11WSChamps wrote: ↑19 Apr 2025 00:35 am Its ridiculous your veteran starting pitcher is being taken out of a 2-2 game with two outs in the 5th inning.

As for he couldn't make 5 innings, that is the manager's decision to pull him there. It wasn't like there were a couple guys in scoring position and he got chased from the game.RichieRichSTL wrote: ↑18 Apr 2025 21:22 pm But not terribly effective either.

With 2 outs and one guy on , lefty Winker was coming to bat. Mikolas had about a low 70's pitch count then . Not justifying nor backing Oli's decision to pull him , I think Oli's thoughts were : OK I can bring in a lefty /lefty situation for King. I am not looking for Mikolas to pitch the 6th inning anyway so might as well pull him for this final out . At least that is what I perceive as Oli's thougths right or wrong. He wasn't going with Mikolas the next inning.
Re: Mikolas not horrible
6man rotation nonsense this early in the season is puzzling. Its not like oli pushes all of our starters deep into games even when we run 6. So do they really need that extra day of rest this early? We could use matz in the pen, oli is making our pen even shorter on options.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑19 Apr 2025 00:40 amEspecially when some aren’t reliable at all. He has the 6th worst ERA among pitchers with at least 10 IP this season.RichieRichSTL wrote: ↑18 Apr 2025 21:22 pm But not terribly effective either.

He had the 2nd worst ERA last year. And the 2nd worst ERA the year before that.
He has gone 17.2 IP in 4 starts. That is almost 4 innings a start.
He. Is. Terrible.

Impossible for me to agree more.11WSChamps wrote: ↑19 Apr 2025 00:35 am Its ridiculous your veteran starting pitcher is being taken out of a 2-2 game with two outs in the 5th inning.

This is an example of why Oli can't work a 6 man without having a constant
shuttle to Memphis always running.
The vets should be eating innings. They don't need any protection and are not
a part of St. Louis future.

Isn’t this the expectation of a number five. Go deep regardless. Some days number five is better than others.Futuregm2 wrote: ↑19 Apr 2025 14:07 pmHe has the 6th worst ERA among pitchers with at least 10 IP this season.RichieRichSTL wrote: ↑18 Apr 2025 21:22 pm But not terribly effective either.

Re: Mikolas not horrible
Well know how POBO works. We paid him Mikolas a ton. He will keep sending MM out there if he can justify it. Doesn't matter if we lose 2/3rds of his starts.
I would rather MM get bombed in 3-4 straight games with 10 runs so that they know not to start him rather than 25 more starts where just good enough to stay in the rotation but not good enough to put us in a good position to win.
Re: Mikolas not horrible
Mikolas will usually give you 4 good innings. You can make bank that he'll melt down in the 5th...
Re: Mikolas not horrible
Based on those first two lines, you're saying he's improving!Futuregm2 wrote: ↑19 Apr 2025 14:07 pmHe has the 6th worst ERA among pitchers with at least 10 IP this season.RichieRichSTL wrote: ↑18 Apr 2025 21:22 pm But not terribly effective either.

Lol. 1) improving for horrible to marginally tolerate is hardly a ringing endorsement between starts. 2) He could just as easily blow up again.sdaltons wrote: ↑20 Apr 2025 03:14 amBased on those first two lines, you're saying he's improving!Futuregm2 wrote: ↑19 Apr 2025 14:07 pmHe has the 6th worst ERA among pitchers with at least 10 IP this season.RichieRichSTL wrote: ↑18 Apr 2025 21:22 pm But not terribly effective either.
