Thx duce

From Bernie 4/18:

CONTRERAS BATTING 2ND: For a time, manager Oli Marmol briefly moved Contreras down in the lineup, and that seemed to relax a hitter that was stressing under pressure when batting in the No. 2 spot.

Granted, it was only 17 plate appearances away from the second spot, but Contreras responded with a .313 average. .353 onbase percentage, and .563 slug. Plus a homer, double, three RBIs and only three strikeouts. The reset was helping.

Contreras was slotted back into the No. 2 spot for the last three games, and he’s hitless in 11 at-bats with three strikeouts.

In 61 plate appearances when utilized as STL’s No. 2 hitter this season. Contreras is 5 for 56 (.089) with a 36 percent strikeout rate.

Among the 27 MLB hitters that have logged at least 40 plate appearances when batting second this season, Contreras ranks last with his .089 average, and last with his 36% strikeout rate.

Marmol has to rethink his stance on using Contreras as the No. 2 guy

thx Duce

I dislike 3:05pm starts.
usually a shade/bright sunlight between mound and HP at least late in game (at least in summertime)

but......today.....,,.
I reallly dislike it cuz with a 12:15 start the game would be over far before Blues game starts at 5pm.

now they will overlap, at least somewhat

of course if they Cards are out of it by late game....

Just a no name manager in our great history. Wish we could use white out to remove it.

Its only April but you can already see some glaring holes in the lineup.

We have no #5 hitter, Contreras can't stay in the 2-hole hitting below Dal Maxvill's weight, Scott has cooled off, and Walker remains on the fence of whether he's going to be a power hitter or a singles hitter.

Frankly I'd bat Pages farther up in the order right now.

I want to like Oli. I've been easier on him than most, I think. But come on. What is he doing with these two?

Like, I get not benching Contreras, he will hit. But can you not try him somewhere else in the lineup? He had a good couple of games outside of #2, then they put him back and he sucks.

And Burleson? He started him as much as possible before his hot streak last year, so I guess that hot streak earned him a lifetime pass in the middle of the order no matter if he's got an 80 OPS+. It's ridiculous. Even after his hot streak last year he ended up with a 105 OPS+ for the season, so he's barely above league average at his best, but he's getting starts over other guys and hitting in the middle of the lineup.

I don't understand it.

Contreras needs to be moved to the 7 or 8 spot at this point. Would stick him at 9 but don't like a base running slug ahead of a LO hitter.

And if that doesn't work park him on the bench if unable to trade and cut bait.

The Cubs knew exactly what they were doing in letting him hit the road.

Most people seem to forget he did this with Long Con his first season here. As soon as the Cards acquired, Oli said something like "that's as close a #5 hitter written in ink as you can get." And sure enough, the first 6+ weeks of the season, day or night, clouds or shine, Oli had the .150 .500 OPS Contreras hitting #5 e v e r y d a y.

As far as moving down, did same thing with Goldy last season. After months of suffering through K after K, Oli finally moves him down to hit 7th, Goldy shines, and he's right back in the #2 a few games later clogging up the basepaths.

The smartest people in the world know what they know, and they know what they don't know. Oli's problem is he's a textbook overthinker, so instead of doing the obvious, simple solution, he thinks his longterm "script" is the right answer and never deviates from it. I can't stand the guy. He's an idiot.

Compare to the Blues.

They fire Drew Bannister who they were floundering under, an Oli like nothing, and hire Jim Montgomery.

Blues soar under Monty right into the playoffs.

Until the Cardinals dump this sad sack excuse of a Manager, they'll keep floundering too.
