Goldschmidt's hot start
The St. Louis Cardinals opted to move on from Paul Goldschmidt this past offseason and likely couldn’t have predicted how he would start this season.
St. Louis moved Willson Contreras to first base and Goldschmidt landed a one-year deal with the New York Yankees. He’s been phenomenal to kick of the 2025 season and after another big game on Friday is slashing .373/.415/.480 with one home run, six RBIs, five doubles, and is leading the league with 28 base hits in 20 games.

Re: Goldschmidt's hot start
Isn't PG's track record that he doesn't heat up until the weather warms up?
I wonder what caused the sudden change this late in his career <cough> being on a one-year contract <cough>?

Re: Goldschmidt's hot start
Didn’t he start out hot last season?

Re: Goldschmidt's hot start

I mean thats an ISO of .107
I thought Yankee Stadium would help him hit more homers. He's good at hitting them to right.

Basically just hits. No real power. Needs 37 homeruns for 400, and 7 rbis for 1200. He might not get to 400 homers.

Re: Goldschmidt's hot start
Goldy is nothing more than a complimentary player. He does best when he can stay in the shadows of true stars. He did it in 2022 when AP did his farewell tour and now with Judge. Wait til the big limelight games...
... he'll fold like a card house.

And during his 53% of the time leading off he has...OldRed wrote: ↑19 Apr 2025 09:31 amHe's batted cleanup almost 1/2 his at bats.Alex Reyes Cy Young wrote: ↑19 Apr 2025 09:20 am He should have been leading off the last two seasons in St. Louis
Batting 1st 932 OPS 375 BA
1st batter of the game 1.278 OPS 444 BA
Leading off the inning 885 OPS 333 BA
As I stated prevously.... He should have been hitting leadoff for the Cardinals his last two seasons with him.
Re: Goldschmidt's hot start
He's batting .418 over his last 14 games (60 PAs), but not showing any power (4 doubles, 0 HRs). His hard hit% is 34.7%, way down from 48% last year and only 6.3% barrel% (10+% last year). But his BABIP is .443 for the season and K% way down (16.9%, last year it was over 26%).

Knowing how incompetent Mo is, this doesn't shock me.
Re: Goldschmidt's hot start
No. He was in the last season of a multi-year contract.
Now that he's experienced an season that set his value nowhere close to the last year of his Cards contract, it could be he's hellbent on producing the entire season to get another contract or better contract for next year.

Being able to fit in behind other high impact hitters and not being asked to carry an offense.
