MU BB rotation next who ya got?
Idle speculation of course and still a player or two to add but why not as it is what we do here.
Ant/TO plus true freshman
Mack/Boating/Ant combo
Boating/Crews/Pierce wing
Mitchell/Pierce/Crews/porter 4
Burns/Phillips/Northw? Mitchell when they play small lineup

Pierce didn't play a wing none last year so why now? He's a stretch 4.
Norweather is most likely not going to play, he's for the most part a practice player. If he gets in the game, the team is doing really really bad. He didn't even get NIL money, only a scholarship and has agreed to those terms I've heard. Norfweather messed up out of high school when he went to a High Major school. He needed to go to a Mid Major to get developed. He never got what he needed at Oklahoma.

Re: MU BB rotation next who ya got?
Lots of question marks with these guys, so we really don't know what we have except for Micthell. Ant had his ups and downs but I believe he'll step up. Pierce cannot stand in the corner, shoot threes at 32%, turn the ball over and fail to rebound. Who knows what we get out of any of those centers,. Boateng, Mack? Unknown. If Crews gets significant minutes we are in trouble. Still have two spots open and we need to hit the jackpot.Rantz wrote: ↑17 Apr 2025 18:02 pmBoating is a wing no way he's a 2. It certainly gets posters like Rod into panic mode.Idle speculation of course and still a player or two to add but why not as it is what we do here.
Oh, I'm sorry, that wasn't speculation.

Re: MU BB rotation next who ya got?
I'm not sure you can slot most of these guys into a particular position. Ant, Mack, and Barrett will all see plenty of playing time at both guard spots, with Barrett being the only one that will play mostly point guard. The freshman coming in might see some minutes as well. And they are still looking for a guard that can bury threes.
Wing/small forward will see Pierce, Crews, and Boateng. Crews will be used similarly to what he was this year. Pierce may or may not see many minutes at this position, but it's functionally what he played a lot this past season. He SHOULD be a stretch 4, but a lot depends upon whether he gets the confidence to play freely.
Mitchell will see the bulk of the minutes at the 4 spot, with Pierce sliding into it when they play small ball. Porter might end up a competent enough backup.
Phillips will be the main man starting out at the 5. But if Burns develops as expected and hoped, he will see growing minutes. The incoming freshman will be worked into the mix slowly.

Re: MU BB rotation next who ya got?
since Gates is shopping from only the bargain barrel not a lot of optimism anywhere for tigers. But with the firepower last years team had we don't know who could step up and take a bigger role in scoring. Ant has a nice touch mid range and 3, Pierce could breakout but needs to add bulk and be more aggressive attacking rim. Boating could step up as he was scorer in HS. Mack is a nice complimentary piece who should be a double figure scorer. then there is MM who really needs to put up big numbers if he has NBA aspirations or even overseas.
I think you will see a lot of guys getting PT till Braggin rights like every year and then the rotation will develop and hopefully roles will be more defined and come together as a team who can rebound and defend much better than last years.

Could you please fill me in on Phillips? I know little about him.Rvrartst wrote: ↑17 Apr 2025 23:57 pm I'm not sure you can slot most of these guys into a particular position. Also, contrary to what I read here.....I'm thinking Missouri is going to be in very good shape to be in contention for one of the top teams in the SEC next year.
I don't get all the down vibes at all. And I don't think Gates is deserving of being labeled a literal hindrance to what the team can do. I do agree his ceiling is in question but I see that as different that being a hindrance.
Anyway, for you and others, thoughts on my comments?
Re: MU BB rotation next who ya got?
Phillips has one year of eligibility remaining. He's 7'0", 245 pounds. He averaged 18 minutes a game in 31 games for Arizona State last year. Played more once Quaintance was injured. Averaged 5.4 points, 5.2 rebounds. Rated out as exactly average in points per possession. 57.3% in field goals, 60% free throws. 1.1 blocks per game. Basically, he moves better on pick and rolls and other actions than Gray did, and shoots better at the line. Defensively he's not been very good overall, but moves well enough to get blocks and recovers quickly when a guard drives around him on switches.dhsux wrote: ↑23 Apr 2025 18:15 pmCould you please fill me in on Phillips? I'd look for him to get minutes similar to Gray. Is he an upgrade from Gray? Probably not...does some things better, some things worse. He's a one year bridge as Burns and Randall hopefully develop.
Look, at this point, with the portal closed, it looks like Mizzou has the most returning production in the SEC. The entire conference was decimated with graduations, transfers, and leaving for the NBA. There were a bunch of teams that lost almost everybody on the roster. They were forced to spend lots of money in a portal market that just didn't have a whole lot of impact players. So while some of those teams got some good players from the portal and have some great incoming freshmen, it's not going to be anything like this past year's SEC. Mizzou will almost certainly be in the top half of the conference, and their path to being one of the top 4 teams shouldn't be that difficult. Gates did well to keep Mitchell and Robinson along with Boateng, Burns, and Barrett. Crews should be at least as useful and probably more so next year. If Pierce takes a step forward, they should have a pretty good team.

Re: MU BB rotation next who ya got?
Whose going to score? Three of their top 4 scorers have graduated. Bates, Grill and Perkins. There hasn't been any scorers to replace them. We have 2 scholarships available and a few people tend to believe for some weird reason that they will use just one of them or maybe neither. Please don't bring in another Jesus Carralero Martin. He was so cheap that he wasn't rated in the top 500 two years ago.

Concerns me a bit about Phillips D because it's Missouri's D that should be carrying most of the load for their coming year imo.
So much will be dependent upon development of the young returning guys....that's the good and the bad about Missouri's prospects I guess.
Re: MU BB rotation next who ya got?
with spring portal now closed would have to give Gates a D- after a great TP last season gave us hope he knew what he was doing and could attract great talent even after a disasterous season. Now after a good season all he can get are dregs and guys who won't be difference makers? who is going to pick up scoring load after top 3 are gone? where is the rebounding and front line defense coming from?
most of us really like who Gates is but he looks like another Cuonzo who is more interested in turning out nice kids rather than running a competitive SEC contention worthy program. Bad news is apparently the bottom feeders in SEC went out spent money and got some real studs and will force Tigers to bottom third of conference.
Sorry for the doom and gloom but it's my opinion. Many of us were on a MU BB high until the last few games of season then yet another awful terrible performance in the big dance losing to yet another Nothing team when you had much better talent because your coaching staff sucked and did NOT have them ready to play. of course same team got bounced by the next team EASILY because that staff had their guys prepared and ready to run them off the court. completely destroyed Gates cred and his staff was revealed to be totally NOT power 5 worthy.
