Defensive Box Line???
I was just wondering what you guys thought about the PK Defensive zone digitally overlayed defender box line thingy they started doing. I'm not even sure when it started but I just noticed it a game or 2 ago. What's it actually called because I know PK Defensive zone digitally imposed defender box line is not it...
I don't find it distracting like the highlighted puck tracker but I am curious as to why they need to show the defensive unit box lines.

Re: Defensive Box Line???
It might add a bit of context for newer and casual viewers. For veteran hockey fans it's a distraction.
On my brand-spanking new 65" oled TV all these trackers are a distraction and I would turn them off if I could. The Blues have been looking real good on my screen, the only times I can't see the puck are when Bolduc, Snuggerud, and Parayko fire off shots. As it should be!

I didn't mind the little black line fading tracker at all. As long as it's subtle and gone quick I could probably even get used to it, although I wouldn't want it all the time.HighStick wrote: ↑18 Apr 2025 10:19 am I was just wondering what you guys thought about the PK Defensive zone digitally overlayed defender box line thingy they started doing. That motheref'n stupid defensive box, on the other hand, worst idea ever. Only thing that'd do for a new or casual fan is confuse the h*ll out of them and might even turn off a lot potential fans. It's pure idiocy.

I can't stand any of these gimmicks, puck tracker & defensive boxes, etc. Good Grief, it's annoying!blackinkbiz wrote: ↑18 Apr 2025 12:39 pmI didn't mind the little black line fading tracker at all. Noticed that the other night. Not a fan. Don’t like the trailing black line either. Heck, don’t even like when they show the names above their heads. Seems like they try to do these things on the PPs. Not sure what’s special about the PPs as they get that special treatment but at least they don’t do it for the full game. I’d probably try to find an alternate feed somewhere if it was all the time.

Re: Defensive Box Line???
The only advantage the defensive box offers is for fans who like hockey but are younger / more casual about it, they can intuitively grasp how in control that organization is in the zone when they see the box because it shows how connected the players are. In scramble mode the box structure would devolve and casual /younger fans will see it. By the same token if the box is holding calm and players are switching off in control you can see that too.

Re: Defensive Box Line???
I cam understand the names a little cuz its hard for some fans to keep track of what player they are watching though i dont need them. The reat is stupid. Its dumb when they tried these gimicks in basketball and football too where they highlighted players with the ball and other things. Nobody likes these things bht for some reason they keep trying them out before abandoning, then to try it again a few years later for no reason to find out people still hate it.STL fan in MN wrote: ↑18 Apr 2025 13:16 pm Noticed that the other night. I don't hate it. It's a light gray and I barely notice it until I actually look for it. It's nowhere near as annoying as the puck tracker glow. I was just wondering what the deal with it is? Why are they doing it and what's it called?Wattage wrote: ↑18 Apr 2025 14:18 pmI dont think anybody likes itHighStick wrote: ↑18 Apr 2025 10:19 am I was just wondering what you guys thought about the PK Defensive zone digitally overlayed defender box line thingy they started doing. Re: Defensive Box Line???
Its distracting to me at times. Its less distracting because you are following the puck and the defenders arent always around puck but as soon as a forward breaks into middle of defenders with the puck it gets in the way again.HighStick wrote: ↑18 Apr 2025 14:23 pmI don't hate it. I don’t mind the names so long as they disappear before they drop the puckSTL fan in MN wrote: ↑18 Apr 2025 13:16 pm Noticed that the other night. Not a fan.
