Just weird. It really is.

I'm sure he and other naysayers will come on when the Blues lose.

The rest of us will just have fun watching this fun team.

0% chance this attention whore drama queen has made his last post. Less than 0. If the blues lose quickly in the playoffs he will be back here like this board is a 14 yr old and he is Jared from Subway. And why can’t these clowns just leave? I have an announcement …..

Good luck with the civil war though. I hope you have chosen your side wisely. I also hope you get hit by space debris.

a smell of green grass wrote: 02 Apr 2025 16:58 pm So long from a passionate fan voicing my concerns about the direction of the team. I want for St Louis, what other cities have regarding draft excitement. I want to buy a jersey of a player for my kid that is valid for longer than 3 years.

My stance is that it serves very little purpose to make the playoffs if you can't win it all. It only spoils draft position. I'm not for losing games on purpose, but I don't agree with Army's approach of "staying competitive by trading away draft choices". Others disagreed saying that 2025 is 2019 all over again. Others said that getting in the playoffs is so wonderful, not matter how much we get blown out.
Today we heard from Army himself that he sees no repeat of 2019. Essentially, the Blues will be participating in the playoffs just to say that we did.

I can't take it anymore. I'm so sick of Army.
Further, it is impossible to have any sort of intelligent discussion on here.
Too many people here don't see things the way that I do, so I'll just hang with the people that do elsewhere.

Goodbye and go Blues

I may be back after Army is gone, but I doubt it.

ASOGG checking out.
I disagree with many things Armstrong did coming out of the Cup season, but since the trade deadline where he dumped the expiring contracts of O’Reilly and Tank he has handled this extremely well.

The team did its strip the club down and rebuild. They didn’t go full tank, but there is nothing that says full tank gets you a cup. Plenty on first overall picks had to change teams to win.

I don’t get what else you wanted him to do. He tore it down and has his young core he is building around. It’s an exciting core which needs to be added to in steps. They are at the point where making the playoffs benefits this team in two ways.
1. Experience for the young players for future years.
2. This is an ownership who has shown they will invest in the team to limits outside of their comfort zone to help build a winner. They have shown that they will reinvest in the team and that includes some of the playoff game gates and concessions.

In fairness Eric Johnson delivered us many cups…….Didn’t he? What, he didn’t? They won their cup without having their first overall pick on the team?

Count me amongst those who would rather see them do well and make the playoffs than be a bottom dweller, fishing for a top pick to turn out.

They all don't turn out.

The Blues seem to be doing fine with their draft picks turning out.

It's hard to criticize Army for this season whatsoever. Basically every single move that was made was to improve the team.

Are you saying firing Bannister and hiring Monty was bad. He has brought out the best in guys. Holloway and Broberg continue to look like the heist of a century. Suter has brought some solid veteran stability to the defensive corps this season with all the various injuries.

The Fowler trade was also a stroke of genius.

What's not to like?

Young guys are getting their chances and the ones that are following the coaching staffs message are getting the minutes and are showing why they were drafted where they were.

The future is looking bright. I guess if you wanna [$hirt] on that then whatever but nobody is going to miss that kind of viewpoint around here.

I seem to remember around 1983, the team was put up for sale by Ralston Purina, and they (bleep) near got relocated to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. The future of the Blues remaining in St. Louis was seriously in doubt. A dark time to be a fan.

Then it was Harry Ornest who bought the club, put some money in The Arena, and made the team viable before selling it and making money. Bring on Mike Shanahan, Kiel Center Partners, Bill Laurie, and Dave Checketts with a private equity firm as owners of the Blues. When Checketts and the private equity firm wanted out, the city was pretty lucky to get Tom Stillman and his group of local investors to get the money together to buy the Blues.

The reason I bring all that up, is that Blues ownership always seemed to be on a roller coaster. First, having Kiel Center built. Then icing a competitive team year in, year out. The question always was, would the Blues spend the money to get better? Laurie spent money, but then lost money, and lost interest. Traded the team almost to bare bones to cheapen it enough to sell. Checketts seemed to want to spend money, but he was limited, too. He didn’t have a huge stake himself, and spent his time trying to keep competitive while turning a small profit to keep the private equity firm happy.

With Stillman, it’s pretty much always been that they will spend to the cap, but getting to the playoffs was crucial. It’s not a mystery. They needed the revenue from playoff games to stay in the black. He’s been true to that. The Blues always try to get to the playoffs, and that’s not conducive to ever getting a high draft pick. Ownership and fans were all rewarded for that strategy in 2019.

At one stretch, the Blues had made the playoffs 25 straight seasons. I know this fan is used to never being in the running for a McDavid, a Bedard, or a Celebrini. Got to go back to 1998 when they picked Erik Johnson as the #1. But they haven’t done too shabby either, with draft picks later in the first round. Neighbors, Bolduc, Snuggerud, Dvorsky- those are pretty decent selections by what we’ve seen so far.

Kyrou - (35th 2016) 26 yrs old, top line scorer
Thomas - (20th 2017) 25 yrs old #1 center
Bokk - (25th 2018) WHIFF
Hofer (107th 2018) potential #1 goaler
Broberg (8th 2019) 23 yrs old Future stud #1 LHD
Holloway (14th 2020) 23 yrs old top line scorer
Neighbours (26th 2020) 23 yrs old top 6 power forward
Bolduc (17th 2021) 22 yrs old top 6 sniper
Snuggerdud 23rd 2022) 20 yrs old top 6 sniper
Dvorsky (10th 2023) franchise top 9 center

So none of these draft picks are worth buying a jersey and supporting during a youth movement? Not unless they are a top 3 pick? Army fast forwarded that process and saved the franchise a decade of quagmire they likely can't afford Laughably dumb premise good riddance

Getting high draft picks is never a guarantee for succes and eventually winning the ultimate prize.
Look at teams like Detroit, Buffalo, san Jose, Columbus, and until this year, Ottawa.
Rheyve all missed the playoffs for many years now and they all have multiple, top 5 & top 10 draft picks on their rosters.
The only year we had it, we took the consensus #1 overall pick and it didn't work out.
And now, even if you finish dead last, you only have what, a 25% chance of drafting 1st overall.
Those are pretty long odds right there
Even if you draft a great player, you can still be second guessed to death.
Just look at Cale Makar's draft year. Dallas picked 3rd and drafted a very good defenseman in Hiskannen and Colorado got Makar on the very next pick.
What if Dallas had taken Makar instead???
Maybe Colorado is,still chasing their first Cup win since 2001.

He should start following the Rangers, they have their #1 pick, he's about the same age group as the emerging young players on the Blues. Or the Hawks. Well maybe wait until next season. Or the next, or the next.

I never could really pinpoint WHY he was so immersed in his narrative. Did Army run over his dog?
