Not sure I trust either one based on what I’ve seen?ramfandan wrote: ↑16 Apr 2025 20:57 pmStubby ?Cusecards wrote: ↑16 Apr 2025 20:48 pmTruescoutyjones2 wrote: ↑16 Apr 2025 20:40 pmSiani is one of the few good base stealers too. Most Cards suck at SBs.Cusecards wrote: ↑16 Apr 2025 20:38 pm When Herrera & Winn are healthy you have:
Everyday locks to play- Herrera, Contreras, Donovan, Winn, Arenado, Noot, Scott, & Walker.
When you factor in the DH that leaves one spot up for grabs.
Siani- if on the roster he is strictly late game defense unless an injury. I guess he could PH in an emergency.
That leaves:
Vs. RH pitching- Gorman(2B/3B/DH) & Burleson(1B/DH)
Vs. LH pitching- Baker(least flexibility? DH only?) &
Saggese(most flexibility with IF and possibly corner OF?)
Of course those “locks” will require days off and the above 4 will fill in depending on RH/LH starter.
In fact he is one of the few actual “smart base runners” on this team! LOL
Does anyone coach base running on this team?
I thought McGee used to but now???
If it is Pops, oh boy
I’m not sure I’d trust Pop to manage a goldfish tank if it had more than one fish in it??

I would almost rather have Barrero in Siani's roster spot right now. He can play short, center field, as well as other spots as a right handed bat.

You have Contreras and Burleson both at 1B and they are clearly better than Baker in the field.okcardfan wrote: ↑16 Apr 2025 21:03 pmI don't know why you repeatedly stayed that Baker has no position. Send out either Siani or Baker. Personally, I send Baker. Burleson and Donovan are the backups at first.
Pozo goes when Herrera returns although he has earned better.
Winn back it’s Siani or Baker.
Tough call:
Siani gets the nod for defense, base running, and bunting.
Baker has no place defensively in the field but they are short on RH bats.
Then you have Donovan and Saggese who I’m sure could both handle the position better than Baker.
Have you seen much of Baker at 1B.
He is not good!
Re: So what would you do with Saggese ?
To me the problem roots in the inability to get rid of Arenado. This year is suppose to be dedicated to the youth “yute” movement. We have talented yutes that will not get their playing time. Many could play 3rd base. Some of our promising prospects in the minors are infielders. Those yutes will also be denied. Arenado has caused a log jam. I guess 1st base may have the same log jam but less impact on talent progression.

I do not believe Nolan will be a Cardinal by Opening Day 2026.Jatalk wrote: ↑16 Apr 2025 21:30 pm To me the problem roots in the inability to get rid of Arenado. Re: So what would you do with Saggese ?
Donovan can play the OF and we need another RH bat so Saggese stays.
He can play three INF positions and he's only going to get better.

Re: So what would you do with Saggese ?
That could be true. Also during the season injuries will occur so depth is good. I’m concerned Winn will be injury prone for example.JuanAgosto wrote: ↑16 Apr 2025 21:34 pmI do not believe Nolan will be a Cardinal by Opening Day 2026.Jatalk wrote: ↑16 Apr 2025 21:30 pm To me the problem roots in the inability to get rid of Arenado. Re: So what would you do with Saggese ?
Baker is simply too limited as a part time1B- DH on a very short bench. Saggese needs to stick with his versatility and RH bat. He has earned it. Cards need Herrera's bat back in the lineup as a C- DH. Cards are in great shape and deep in catching with both he and Pages. Also, with Pozo, Crooks and Bernal in the organization.Talkin' Baseball wrote: ↑16 Apr 2025 20:46 pm Keep Saggese. Send out either Siani or Baker. Personally, I send Baker. Re: So what would you do with Saggese ?
I would keep Baker over Burleson. He just needs the ABs. He has more power than Burleson, a lot more. Burleson seems to have lost whatever power he had.
Re: So what would youdo mwith Saggese ?
To me the bye bye should go to baker or burly. At least siani fills a role as defensive rrplacement or punch runner. Burly and bakernare just taking away at bats from better hitters. Saggese is a better right handed bat than baker and instead should get those starts vs lhp. Hecl pages/pozo whomever is not szarting should be a dh over baker. Same with burly. Get gorman to dh. We dont need to be wasting at bats on those guys and they are just blocking better hitters while providing no defensive value.
Re: So what would you do with Saggese ?
Baker is not good at 1b and has only played 3.1 innings in a blowout game.okcardfan wrote: ↑16 Apr 2025 21:03 pmI don't know why you repeatedly stayed that Baker has no position. Also im not sure what people are loving about this 28 year old who has very mediocre mlb numbers. His 2024 memphis season wasnt that special considering his age. His 2023 memphisnseason came out of nowhere and he wasnt able to bring it to majors or repeat it in 2024.
Im not a fan of burly but at least burly isnt 28 years old. Baker is a nobody.
