Will he be back in time for the playoffs? Or is he out for the year?

seemingly we would need a deep run. But a deep run might just be a 7 game 1st round series and get to the 2nd round. Remember, 7 games is 14 days. So possible to see if we made it a 2nd round appearance from hollywood.

I don't think we have a clue, wouldn't surprise me if he plays game 1

Yeah, JR just said this morning he's skating but not doing an overly "strenous" activity. So he's stickhanlding and skating, but definite no contact yet. Seems most are guessing a hip pointer which tbh I know nothing about except they're apparently painful.

Word on the street is he has a broken cracked rib or ribbs. Which if you have ever played hockey and had that like me is severly painful. Everything from skating to picoting to shooting and stick handling.

Your thought of a hip pointer has some validity but from watching the replay ad nauseum, I am convinced it could be a broken or separated floating rib injury. I have suffered that injury in the past. It is very painful and takes a good amount of time to fully recover.

This makes sense to me......he bent over big time on his way off the ice...I don't see that as a hip injury.

But the Blues are listing it as "lower body" which would preclude ribs.

If it's a rib it's a 5-6 week recovery.

I'll second those who have had serious rib injuries. I merely bruised ribs and I couldn't do anything. Anybody who can play NHL playoff hockey with broken or badly bruised ribs gets a serious salute from me.

Do you really want to let other teams know he has bruised cracked ribbs especially in the playoffs. I wouldnt cause they are horrendous when you get hit by someone

He is skating and stickhandling but no heavy drills and no contact. honestly he has been out what 2 weeks i think he could be ready by next weekend game 3 or 4 but if blues are leading in series i would hold out for 2nd round.

I've had a broken rib and open heart surgery so I get rib pain.

Interesting point on the team lying about the injury location, not sure if I have seen this done before?

Never had to play with a cracked rib but tried to play through a bruised tailbone ... Hahahaha! That was like watching your grandpa play a shift. It didn't work. lol

Rib does seem to make the most sense.

Not saying he should or could play. Just some cases in the past of those with rib issues.

Patrice Bergeron:
In the 2013 Stanley Cup Final, Bergeron not only played with a broken rib but also a punctured lung, separated shoulder, and torn cartilage. He continued to play even after discovering the lung puncture, demonstrating exceptional dedication.

Brock Faber:
As a rookie, Faber played with fractured ribs for two months, highlighting his ability to perform at a high level despite the injury.

Leon Draisaitl:
Draisaitl reportedly played with a broken rib sustained during a hit in the playoffs.

Nikita Kucherov:
Played in the Stanley Cup Final with protection from a flak jacket and pain medication after a rib fracture during the playoffs.
