The @StLouisBlues went 19-4-2 over their final 25 games, claiming 42 of 50 possible points.

Take a bow, Jim Montgomery.

Four weeks ago, Flames were two points out of a playoff spot, but had two games in hand on St. Louis. Most years, going 10-2-3 in the next 15 games is plenty good enough.

But not this year.

Over that same period, St. Louis went 11-2-1 and that two-point cushion remains. Crazy.

Blues have now made playoffs in 46 of their 57 seasons in NHL - an 80.7 % clip. By my calculations, only Vegas - 7 of 8/87.5 % has a better success rate in making playoffs. After all this franchise has been thru over the years, it’s quite a testament to sustained competitiveness.

I remember that being a huge point of Blues fan pride back in the early 00s. The streak was at 25 years or so making the playoffs was the longest in the NHL, then that damned work stoppage came and the Blues sold off their best players to save cost, the worst of which was letting The Captain go. Welcome back after the lost year to a rebuilding team at the bottom. Those were some hard years to live through.

the real kicker was that streak was the longest running streak in sports, not just the NHL.

That’s just crazy. If you told anyone Calgary was going to go 10-2-3 to finish the year, everyone (myself included) would have said, oof, not our year I guess.

Nope.
it was, it is the 3rd longest streak of all time and it at the time was the longest running streak. The red wings got to 25 as well but theirs started later. And the Hawks and Bruins streaks ended before the Blues ended and theirs was 28 and 29. Those are the longest running streaks in sports. I guess I should specify, North American sports.

To be fair you did say "was". Good point.
