Every year there is an "upset" in the first round ... Who is Cinderella 2025?

Post by bud white »

Just like March Madness, there is always an upset or two in the first round.

I still think the Blues will be a handful for the Jets or Vegas. The fact that Blues have been the best team in the league since 4 Nations technically doesn't qualify this as a "Cinderella" event.

I think LA can take down the Oilers ... Does that count?

In the East - Montreal has a very real chance of knocking the Caps out of the playoffs. Caps haven't been playing great hockey the past few weeks. Has the Ovi Chase taken their focus? Hard to say, but I don't think they're playing the right way lately.

Interested in other takes.

Yea I could see Ottawa doing some damage for sure. Even if they don't win, they'll take a chunk out of you.

I will laugh if Ottawa knocks off Toronto. Not predicting it but the chaos would be entertaining

I consider the premise of this thread to be offensively premature. This is a Blues blog, let's wait until the dust settles, OK?

Worried about the Oilers. They have some pretty devastating injuries/absences.

I agree, especially with the stakes of tonight. the focus is on the Blues. The Upset "cinderella story" is reserved for the East this year anyways. 2 weeks ago you could have seen 7 teams pop out of the west. Hard to say it's a cinderalla storyline when lots of teams have validity to their case.

it's basically all 4 wild card matchups and NJ who will be underdogs
We only know Ottawa and NJ for sure
I generally like Montreal but I wouldn't hate the storyline of the Jackets winning two games in regulation and CAR beating MTL in reg
Let's hope the Blues are a possibility, we may well know in a few hours ...

It may be easier way to talk about things around the league to ask which of these five teams are ripest for an upset:
Winnipeg, Washington, Vegas, Toronto, Carolina

Dallas has been kinda "meh" lately, although the Avs / Stars series is basically a coin flip - especially if the Stars don't get Heiskanan back for the first round.
