This offense is cooking right now.

Post by CCard »

They look very different when they hit and score runs. Whatever the reason(s), if they keep hitting like this it'll make up for a lot of pitching shortcomings. And of late, Gray, Pallante, Libertore have been pitching exceptionally. That debacle in Boston really hurt but they seem like they've rebounded real well. :D

This team could easily be 11-6 but, it's baseball, that's why they play 162. I don't think this is shocking, as the reason each of these guys is getting at bats is, they've shown in flashes--some longer than others--that they can put up numbers in MLB. Some guys like Pozo have been a surprise and some of these guys will come back to earth a little BUT... imo, the surprise isn't this year, it's the tragedy of 2024.

For whatever reason, and I hope it was a change in approach spurred by BB, they couldn't get a hit with RISP and especially the bases loaded last year to save their life. If I'm not mistaken, they were something like 1 for 40 with the bases loaded last year at some point.

I haven't heard any of the "look for my pitch and hit it as hard I can" insanity that we heard ad nauseum the last few years, so hopefully the change in approach is all it took, because that is sustainable.

Amazing what happens when a competent coach is installed at a critical position. Very tired of hearing “the Cardinals don’t fire anybody because they don’t want to hurt their feelings”. The last hitting coach was obviously a tool…..same players very different results under Brown. And many here have been baffled for years WHY these young kids seemingly have talent ……get to ML and look like they never picked up a bat.

I think when Winn and Herrera return we will start seeing a consistent lineup against left and right handed pitchers. They're letting these guys play their way in or out. Baker hasn't hit 2nd because they think he belongs there. They gave him an opportunity. Burleson has been given an opportunity. Same with Gorman and Saggesse. Walker as well. Walker has impressed the most out of that group. Pedro stock has gone way up. When Herrera gets back, they both play. That has to be figured out. With Arenado still here, it increases the competition for at bats. That's a good thing if he's producing.

Definitely true for S. Gray, guy seems to love the Busch Stadium mound.

We are 1/10 of the way through the season now. It's time to extrapolate away. I will start. Donovan is on pace for 250 hits.

Brant Brown's gain is Scouty's pain.

Those opening day boos really are living rent free in your head aren’t they? I imagine you’ve had a lot of nights waking up in a cold sweat

Not really, Banner. It’s actually the “boo birds” on CT I’m referring to.

Why even mention such things. They are instigated comments. Like throwing a left jab.
