Phil Maton

Post by Talkin' Baseball »

Would you try to extend him for a season, or two, or flip him at the deadline?

If it were my call, I would try to add one season. If that doesn't work, either see what we can get at the deadline, or let him close if Helsley is traded.

If the cardinals aren’t in it flip him at the deadline I wouldn’t extend him it’s not like he’s young where he will get a big offseason deal

Or, he could be used to replace Helsley if Helsley is dealt at the deadline.
Cards should at David Robertson for that role b

maton is not a closer, he is a middle of the road vet who throws 91 mph and has had a good 11 innings...perfectly fine pitcher but not worth worrying about

He has been terrific. I hope they don't wear him out.

He’s been a terrific replacement for Kittredge. But like Kittredge I wouldn’t be in a hurry to extend him.

Way to early to sign or think about flipping. He wanted to play for the Cards. Enjoy it and see how it unfolds

I'd let him ride out the year. If you still want him by October, then you can work a deal out.

Not sure but I will say it is going to be a good thing to send out a guy with a meh FB in the 8th and then have a 100 mph FB follow that in the 9th. If we could just count on Romero we would have a great back end of the BP.

Mo has proposed a 5 year $100 million extension. Soon after signing it Matin will need TJ surgery.

Way too early to make that decision.
