JJ coming on strong!
It's early, but after going hitless in his first four games, JJ Wetherholt now has 8 hits in his last 3 games. This kid was born to hit.
I think we see him in St Louis to begin 2026 if not in September of this year. Once he figures out AA pitching, I think he'll crush it at Memphis.

Re: JJ coming on strong!
A shining light for the future. Does he play 2B, or replace Arenado?
Re: JJ coming on strong!
Saggese looked bad at 3rd on Wednesday. He backed up, let the ball play him, kicked it and then sailed the throw about 3 feet over the 1b's head.
There is a quasi prospect in Peoria, Paige, but I would favor JJ for a look at 3rd and see if Tom Saggese is any better at 2B.

I wonder if they really work out Saggese at 3B in the off season if he will improve enough.CNYFan wrote: ↑13 Apr 2025 07:42 am Saggese looked bad at 3rd on Wednesday. He backed up, let the ball play him, kicked it and then sailed the throw about 3 feet over the 1b's head.

Wow that would be one weak (power) bat at a power position, no thanks.
JJ is ticketed for 2nd base, hope he keeps hitting and is a Sept call-up.
Re: JJ coming on strong!
I answered your question about third base and who replaces Arenado.

Put him at 2nd right now in AA! Stop having these players learn new positions when they arrive in the Show. It's not in anybody's best interest.rockondlouie wrote: ↑13 Apr 2025 09:34 amWow that would be one weak (power) bat at a power position, no thanks.

I loathe how Mo does this when he has a great prospect.
Plant the kid at 2nd base, get him to AA and then to Memphis mid year if he's tearing up AA pitching.
I want a "M. Winn" like callup this season so the kid can get his feet wet.
If you've read VSII comments about his callup last season, then you can see players really appreciate and grow the next year from them.
Can't wait for Mo to go!
Re: JJ coming on strong!
I respect all the opinions. That being said, I want to hopefully help erase some if not all of the myths going on here.
First, Saggese's arm isn't made for the left side of the infield. The loopty-loop throw is extremely weak/slow. That should eliminate him from 3B, but if you're not convinced, his footwork is atrocious. Maybe hard work in the offseason would make the foot work average, but his arm will never improve.
Second. Wetherholt as a "middle of the order bat". He has line drive power, not HR power. Maybe the in game power over the wall will come? I'm not convinced on that....at max he could be Tre Turner ~ one could dream.
Third. "Screwing over Wetherholt by playing him at SS in the minors" He can play anywhere on the diamond and play it well. Please, backseat another player and his Future Defensive failures brought upon by the Front Office.... Wetherholt will be fine. They sometimes make athletes like this, he can and has done it. 2B and 3B aren't foreign to him.
-------
I challenge you all to think outside the box...there's a possibility that Gorman or Winn or Saggese won't be here next season. It blows our minds, yes, but It's Chaim's show and rebuild come 2026.
It happens....be prepared for anything

Re: JJ coming on strong!
My guess is that JJ’ future will be at 2nd base (agree with Old Red) .
As for 3rd long term , I think he is yet to be drafted…
Maybe in 2025 draft ? Or 2026
JJ is a fine line drive overall hitter with some power but a team usually wants a true power HR type guy for 3rd.
The corners 1st,3rd, LF,RF are traditionally the power bats.
So I would play JJ at 2nd if possible.
