WOW ! B'Backs with 5 runs bottom of 9th beat Brewers 5-4

Post by ramfandan »

Arizona at home was trailing Milwaukee 4-0 and D'Backs score 5 times to beat Milwaukee ! :D :D

Good news for MLB Central teams.

With 4-0 lead , Brewers had two pitchers try to close it down but D'Backs fought back and got it to 4-3 with runner on 2nd and 1 out
Brewers then went to their fireball closer Megill (100 MPH guy ) ..

On 8 pitch at bat with several 3-2 foul balls , Megill walked the batter . Then a single ties the game 4-4 with runners on 1st & 3rd
Then sac fly to RF but throw by Frelich late to the plate. Talk about a wild walk off .

They can hit. Now add power. Easy to see a four run comeback. How many hits would it take us to score four.

I thought Helsley loss was punch in the gut. That was 3 runs and went to extras. This was 4 runs ahead and Dbacks score 5 to walk it off.
Glad you saw the highlights. It was shocking and good news for Cardinals.

You say ‘easy to see a 4 run comeback’… well if you Google percentage of time a team will win a game in 9th inning down 4 runs, it is less than 1% . So for every 100 games, you will see that 1 time. So not as easy as it may seem. Quite rare actually.

I was referring to the video I watched. With two shots off the wall in the inning, that kind of power lends to a big comeback. Hope that’s better intent.

I posted after the D. Williams trade that it would come back to haunt the Brewers since you can't simply slide just anyone into that closers role.

The Cardinals are going to find this out when they deal R. Helsley or he walks at seasons end.

I'd be prepping T. Hence right NOW to be the "closer in waiting".

He's got D. Williams like stuff (98+ MPH fastball + great change up) to handle the job.

We should know by now he can't stay healthy as a starter, no way he's going to go 150+ innings.

D. Williams has not had a good start with the NYY . He has a 9.0 ERA pitched 4 innings allowing 5 runs .. He had some health issues with Brewers and I think though a lot wasn't said about it , the Brewers knew that a long term deal with him probably was quite risky.

BUT

He was GREAT as the Brewers closer.

You're right about the low payroll Brewers knowing they couldn't afford him, just like they dealt J. Hader for the same reason.

Likewise, Cortes is currently on the IL. Doesn’t look like it’s worked out all that well for either team.

Good point ! Some damaged goods both ways in that deal.

I’ll bet the d back fans who left early thinking game was over are kicking themselves
