OregonRedbird wrote: 11 Apr 2025 15:11 pm This is my 70th season as a Cardinals fan; I'll be 75 end of the month. The only thing I hate more than an off-day is the off-season.

Over the years I've seen high-highs and low-lows. I've also been treated to 9 WS's and we won 4 of 'em. Many times, especially during down years, I felt like giving up on a lost season but never could. Can't not watch, won't stop caring, it's in my DNA and like 2011 taught us, you never know.

The personal attacks in CT are pointless. Three suggestions.

- If you don't like a post, respond, ignore but stop the condescending and smarmy personal assaults.
- If you don't like a poster, respond, ignore or don't read but spare us the petty attacks and piling on.
- If you don't like me, respond, ignore, or don't read.

Most posters have insightful takes or pose interesting questions. I like learning from different perspectives.

A recent post was titled something like 'It's hard to be a Cardinals fan in recent years''. True enough. The steady decline over the past decade from FO arrogance, unforced errors, mismanagement and indifference is hard to endure. But thoughtful fans know how lucky we are as Cardinals fans. I live in Oregon but was born and raised in the StL. I'll always be proud of that, even in years when watching the Cards feels like punishment.

So, enjoy the game tonight, and for those self-appointed guardians of baseball truth, consider a tall glass of ice-cold shut the fork up at the ready.
Why in the world would you end a post that advocates to stop condescending assaults and attacks with negative, insulting language? The irony is incredible.
There is a difference between telling someone he's a f*cken idiot vs. self-righteous. One is flat out hateful and bullying. The other is being called out.

He's just politely telling others if they are hateful and bullying to considering keeping their mouth shut if you feel the need to be like that. The ones hateful/bullying types tell you aren't fit to even post here. One is telling them to knock off the hatefulness, the other is agressive, mean-spirited and designed to encourage people to not post on here again.

--

Look you may consider my take to be ignorant, simplistic, uninformed, but that doesn't give you the right to be an ahole about it. I think that's what he means. If you don't like it, that's fine, you can say that you think it is simplistic, uninformed, etc. But when you start calling them a d*mb*ss, then you are being an ahole. I think that's more what he means.
The lack of awareness in his post is hilarious. And no, he was not polite about it.
Exactly. He is not taking his own advice. He could simply put posters he doesn't like on ignore and not respond to them. So in addition to being disingenuous, he doesn't appear to be very self-reflective.

Just a fact that posters get away with stuff on this forum that would get them banned in no time on most other forums.
Many good posters on here have left. Thank goodness for posters like craviduce.

Calling someone out for being a self-righteous jerk isn't going to be polite. But it is a deserved response to some posters cursing others out and just treating them like sh*t for daring to post a take they don't like. Why is it controversial to expect a poster not to personally attack you for having a different take?!

But, I've been called an ahole or dumb*ss on here just for having a take on here that someone thought was too simplistic. Of course these cowards wouldn't say that to my face, but I digress. There is a difference. If your response to a take which you think is simplistic or uninformed is to be rude up to cursing the person out, then you a) need anger management or other psychological help and b) deserve to be called out. If you can't haven't basic decency and your default response is to viciously attack other posters because you disagree with a polite take of theirs, then your *ss should be banned

Yes, I agree that we shouldn’t insult each other.
But, do you not see the irony in someone telling people to be nice and ending the message by telling those people to shut the eff up?

He's just politely telling others if they are hateful and bullying to considering keeping their mouth shut if you feel the need to be like that. The ones hateful/bullying types tell you aren't fit to even post here. One is telling them to knock off the hatefulness, the other is agressive, mean-spirited and designed to encourage people to not post on here again.

Is that difficult to understand?
I didn’t read "political" or "conservative" in there. But if you happen to mention the word Trump, you will get banned....even in using it as a metaphor for baseball. This place is pretty much a joke.

It surely is, when anything political is taboo, but deep personal insults are okay.

Yep. It’s hard to keep politics out of sports when players bring politics to the sport. Pretty obvious which side the moderators are on.

The board manners are a guideline and should be followed. Of course, I am guilty of not doing so when responding to certain attention seekers. Some posters have created personas for this site, and I believe that they not only post as multiple posters, they use these multiple personas to argue against others. This past week, I banned one member who had created multiple identities in the prior decade. It took some effort to do so with the ability of posters to change IP addresses and the easily available multiple email addresses. Heck, have three email addresses.

The ignore feature is available to all. Personally, I won't use it. This is a message board. I won't allow someone to anger me from a message board.

Yeah, no wonder no one subscribes anymore. They’re blatantly one-sided. I’m all for opposing viewpoints, but when a paper is that blinded by its own bias, it loses all credibility. At that point, It’s not reporting- it’s activism.
