Didn’t he have a back spasm issue last year that he recovered from quickly? Or maybe I’m imagining things.

I think they need to bring another MI up in the short term.

If hes not going on the il, you need to send siani or baker down and bring up fermin. You cant just have no bench option if saggese or donovan have to leave the game(or arenado even) and have to go with pages. We are lucky pages was hardly tested.

For anyone that has been watching the games, Jordan Walker has looked much better in the OF. Now he’s not close, yet to winning a Gold Glove, but he has looked pretty good so far. Actually, his throwing arm has started to deter runners for trying to take an extra base as well. So, Siani, is probably the least needed player on the roster. Baker just missed hitting a home run in his at bat and that threat is needed on the team. I think I’d bring up Barrero, as he can play shortstop, or CF. Just makes more sense to me.

Agreed. Siani is perhaps taking up too much room for a late-inning defensive replacement/pinch runner. If Winn doesn't go to the IL, it's hard to keep him up here.

Fermin isn't hitting in AAA ATM, but had a good spring. It would be him because Barrero and Prieto are not on the 40-man.
On that note, WTF is Michael Helman doing on the 40-man? Another CFer? I guess he hit pretty well in the minors the past couple of years and has success in a VERY brief 10 ABs in the Bigs last season. However, he had a poor spring and is not hitting well so far in AAA. He looks like a guy we could boot off the 40-man, if needed.

I would be shocked if he doesn’t spend at least 10 days on the IL

It could happen but I would be shocked . He had back issue last year too and still played in 150 games. This kid wants to play . Look for him to get a 2 day rest and be back in there. Trainers will get him good to go again .

Playwrs have so many years in minors before they have to be added ornexposed to rule 5 draft. Once added, they have to pass through waivers to be taken off where any other team just has to claim them to 40 man roster, not to mlb team. Also once added, they burn a minor league kption year for each season they are in minors longer than 20 days.

Helman was already on 40 man roster when he was traded to us and wed have to dfa him to remove him. He may be a dfa candidate in future if we need room.

Its amazing that with how.much the cardinals have pushed so many prospects into utility roles, that we also end up with not having all positions covered with insurance on roster because we also do some things like carry 3 players for 1b/dh only(contreras, baker, burly although burly can technically play outfield) when donovan arenado and catchers are probably capable of backing up 1b anyway so that isnt the position to need multiple backups for.

Oh boy, one of the worst starting pitchers in baseball is pitching for the Cards today. Must see TV. Make your viewing times early in the contest lest you miss the ace of the St. Louis Cardinals and the pride of Johnny Moe.
