As a lifetime NL gu, I had to look up the DH rules. Just sharing for those who may not know.
Yes, a designated hitter (DH) can move to the field, but once that happens, the team loses the DH and the pitcher must bat in the spot of the defensive player the DH replaced, or another player if multiple substitutions occur.
Here's a more detailed explanation:
DH Role:
The DH bats for the pitcher, allowing the pitcher to focus solely on defense.
Moving to the Field:
If the DH is moved to a defensive position, the team forfeits the DH, and the pitcher must bat in the spot of the defensive player who was replaced.
Multiple Substitutions:
If there are multiple substitutions, the manager can decide where the pitcher will bat.
Ohtani Rule:
The "Ohtani rule" allows a player to be both the pitcher and DH, but if the player is removed from pitching, they can remain the DH.
No DH for Pitcher:
A team cannot have a DH bat for the pitcher if the DH has been moved to the field, or if the pitcher is moved to another defensive position, or if a player pinch-hits or pinch-runs for the DH.

very nice play Burly
Re: GDT: Cards vs. Phillies (4/11) ~ 7:15pm CDT
Ok ,cool night, Winn with history of back issues, no backup ss on the bench and Oil DH's his utility man. Come on man! Someone said we fans have hind site, but Oli lacks fore cite.
Re: GDT: Cards vs. Phillies (4/11) ~ 7:15pm CDT
even nicer play Noot
Re: GDT: Cards vs. Phillies (4/11) ~ 7:15pm CDT
GREAT defensive play by Noot in LF, catching popup against the net along the LF line... Noot's bat may have cooled a little, but his defense is still there...
Re: GDT: Cards vs. Phillies (4/11) ~ 7:15pm CDT
Burly and Noot flashing the leather and 3rd out can o corn F9
Re: GDT: Cards vs. Phillies (4/11) ~ 7:15pm CDT
Why not put Walker at third and move Nado to short?
Re: GDT: Cards vs. Phillies (4/11) ~ 7:15pm CDT
Anybody have Pages at 2b on their bingo card? You can’t make this stuff up….oh wait Mo can! Isn’t anyone above Mo embarrassed by this kind of stuff?

I’m okay with it now.82birds wrote: ↑11 Apr 2025 19:54 pmthisvegascardsfan5890 wrote: ↑11 Apr 2025 19:52 pm I'd rather have Donovan at 2nd and lose the DH than have Pages at 2nd and screw the entire infield/catching alignment up
If it gets back, you can always make the switch
Re: GDT: Cards vs. Phillies (4/11) ~ 7:15pm CDT
I would put that on roster construction. The way it is now it’s either in the field for Donovan are benched. Never DH. Winn’s injury just happened to fall on the right. Just offering a different side.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑11 Apr 2025 19:49 pmlol you would think a manager would take these things into considerationhullie wrote: ↑11 Apr 2025 19:48 pmIt’s only dumb because we as fans have hindsight in our corner.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑11 Apr 2025 19:46 pmYea that was kind of dumb should have had him in the outfield and put waker or noot at DH just but oli doesn’t plan ahead

Noot walk for the second time. For some reason, Walker could take those exact same pitches and find himself called out on strikes.

2 SB for Noot
