Cardinals and Major League leaders board

Post by sikeston bulldog2 »

Good morning

12 games in. Several players are on the general leaders board.

Average- Donovan.375 sixth; Arenado.310 thirty first.

Hr- Herrera 4. The leaders have six I believe.

RBI- Herrera 11; Donovan 10. Question- are these still role players or everyday bats.

Hits- Donovan 18. Leader at 19. Goldy has 18 hitting .383

Stolen bases- Scott 5. Walker 2. Explain- how we can have a record start of 10 hit games, runners galore, yet have only tow players with two or more SB. Boys that is huge.

Strikeouts- Gray 19. Leader at 26 ish.

Quick early season roll up.

Donovan isn't even close to being a "role player" BDog, he's an everyday core player on this team.

When healthy, Hererra isn't a "role player either" as he needs to either Catch or DH, the bat plays.

The low SB total bugs me too but Oli does nothing to generate offense, never has (this season the offense has been there but a day like yesterday exposed his lack of creativity). Go look at the Scrubbies total, they're running like mad and so are the Brewers.

Where's Goldie? Isn't he on a leader's board anywhere? Oh that's right, the other league.

Seriously. When an opponent runner gets on, I generally assume he will steal against us. With the new rules and no catcher.

Yet we have near a 100 baserunners, and Walker has two. No one else. That’s not even remotely effective. That’s horrid.

And the Pirates.

Cubs 25 SBs (1st in MLB)
Pirates 21 SBs (2nd in MLB)
Brewers 13 SBs (T-9th in MLB)

Surprisingly the Reds have one of the lowest SB totals (6) after ranking 3rd in 2024 and 1st in 2023 in SBs in the MLB. But that probably has more to do with their MLB low .267 OBP.

Cardinals will likely be far behind all 4 if the top 3 continue their rates and the Reds get back to where they’ve been.

Walker-Winn-Noot (not great base stealers but Winn should get 20, the other two double figures) even Saggese-Siani (when these two play and Siani does run) should all be running more but there seems to have been no quality instruction on how to steal a base other than "run fast".

VSII (0 CS this season) should have the green light ever single time he reaches base, he should have 10 SB's by now given his .354 OB%.

Goldy showed last season, at age 36, that you can use guile to steal bases like he did when he swiped 11 bags.

Heck Yadi once stole 12 bases in 2012 so if one of the slowest players in MLB can hit double figures, certainly the Cardinals have more than VSII and Sinai who can too.

Again, this is on Oli who has no clue how to manufacture runs.

What's up w/E. DeLaCruz?

I thought he'd have 10 SB's by himself by now! 8O

C. Counsel loves the running game which remained intact in Milw. even after he left.

Oli sits in the dugout like the stiff he is making the Cardinals get three hits to score one run. :x

It is interesting with how he finished last year though. He had “only” 12 SBs in 18 tries over his last 54 games last year (2 months) and has 2 SBs in 3 attempts this year through 13 games.

In his first 10 GP last season he had 6 SB's.

Then from 4/16 - 4/28 he stole another 12 bases in 12 games!

We only have 4 guys with above average speed on this team. Scott is running. Winn wasn't getting on base until recently, and we all know what Oli had him doing even when he was on base last year. Siani was an exclusive defensive replacement for most game and cannot hit. Walker is fast for a big guy but not a good base stealer.

The Cardinals have many players with above average speed on the team. Those players include Scott, Winn, Walker, Siani, Saggese, Herrera, etc. They need Willie McGee, Vince Coleman or another base stealing threat to coach them on stealing bases!

That's when you use the "hit and run", which the Cardinals never use.
