Article: Pop Warner starting to get a reputation

Post by ramfandan »

https://redbirdrants.com/cardinals-thir ... ial-moment

There was some discussion on this topic in yesterday's CT forum (myself included ) and sure enough 12 hours later there is a media article on the topic of Warner's 3rd base coaching .

Wondering if this issue will be a one-day story or if this will create more discussion or even comments during game telecasts , pregame or postgame analysis. One thing is for sure, it is getting more notice especially in these extra inning games when ghost runners are in play.

Guess some might say , play less extra inning contests and it will go away . Will it ?

It’s taken way too long for this to be rectified. As the article reinforces, he’s been doing this for years. The most egregious was the O’Neill play for how the team handled it. Instead of holding themselves accountable for one of Pop’s now trademarked horrific sends, they threw the player under the bus & made it a national story.

It’s absurd he’s been allowed to continue in this role while still making the exact same mistakes and costing the Cardinals games in the standings.

Have always thought and sometimes have mentioned on here how I thought Stubby would be the much better 3rd base coach, but wondered if Oli would be more threatened having Stubby as 3B coach, which really doesn't make a lot of sense, but sometimes things just don't.

Now that Warner’s ‘send’ / stop’ decisions have been debated, it may make Warner very gun shy in sending runners .

Waiting for the time where a base runner ignores Warner’ signal ,
Then we may have a full blown controversy.

Not sure of Descalso or McGee?

I was hoping they would have canned Oli and tried Skip.
He could not have been worse.

Willie's gone cuse, special advisor now

Not sure Descalso has brought much to the team, perhaps so we'll give him a pass.

We've seen Brown's influence already and if you've notice Jay's work w/Walker a +2 DRS OFer! 8O

Of course Oli sticks out like a sore thumb.
Now you have Warner who has become a Trainwreck.
Those two should probably follow George Costanza?
Think of what to say or do and THEN do the OPPOSITE!
With their track record it should improve.
I have my doubts about Blake also.
With all that staff can’t anyone teach base running??

"Starting to get a reputation," from the guy from Redbird Rants based on two examples from 2022 and another from 2023.

Hey it has now been said on the internet so it must be true...

"Starting to get a reputation"... among whom exactly? Anyone besides the Redbird Rants group chat and the CT forum which still for some reason in the good lord's year 2025 is using Redbird Rants as a news source?

Precisely. Great call!

Tyler O'Neill was coming off a hammy injury, on a wet field, and with a human howitzer in RF for the Braves converging on a hard-hit single with O'Neill not yet at 3B. Yet O'Neill got publicly raked over the coals and traded while Pop whistled through the graveyard.

While I agree with the first part of this statement, let's not pretend O'Neill didn't need to be traded. His time as a Cardinal was over and everyone knew it, with or without this incident. You could argue we held him a year too long. Even now when he's playing well, he's always 1 tweak away from a DL stint, which he's had numerous.

Reputation well earned.

One bone head decision after another for a team that really has no margin for error.

What in the world is he thinking chancing a play at the plate with no one out with the Siani play yesterday?

But with this organization the incompetence shouldn't be a surprise.

Warner sucked as the manager of the Memphis Redbirds way back when. The season ticket holders hated him.

Reviewing the Siani play review shows Pham fielding the ball as Siani was 2 or 3 steps shy of 3rd base.
The unwritten rule is if the runner is touching 3rd or beyond it, you Send ! If slightly shy if 3rd, you Stop sign the runner!
