Blues Asst Coaches

Post by Barney Fife Lives »

Correct me if I am wrong but I have not seen folks pontificate on Julien, Weber or Ott this year though they began the year with Bannister and now are led by Monty. As head coach, Monty receives the accolades but I believe these guys should get some credit as well.

Weber is working with vets so they must like what he saying while Otter has the forwards playing with vigor and tenacity not seen since Binny got hurt in CO. Julien must be the sage bench coach that Monty leans on to provide guidance before, during and after the game.

Sounds like a great formula!

That’s all well and good, but we need to get Ott off the power play. We had one of the best pp in the league when Monty was an asst here, we need him to assert himself into that more

As the old Crusader in "The Last Crusade" says to Indiana Jones, "Knew you'd come."

Lots of new Blood on the units. Guys need a lot of time together typically

You’re right, and right now I hope that’s the case, but it hasn’t been good for a couple years.

There has been 3 distinct differences between then and now:

1) Losing way too many faceoffs in the offensive zone immediately puts them 200 ft away in most cases

2) Can rarely get a clean entry into the zone. Teams lately have been crowding the blue line and forcing them to dump it in and then it gets rifled right back out.

3) No real one timer threat. They are now at the point as to where they are constantly trying to do the bumper play which is fine, but defenses are keying on it and they just end up throwing it around the perimeter looking for it. It's great for puck possession but produces nothing offense wise.

This is going to have to be something they work on dramatically in the time off between the regular season and playoffs or during the off season.

That’s true but the talent is increasing now and Thomas/Kyrou are maturing

I wouldn't be surprised to see Monty move on from Julien after the season. He was a Bannister hire and I just don't see the need to have an alpha male like him behind the bench with Monty.

I know it's not saying much. My hands don't work so good any more, But I did squeeze in a mention of the coaches in this thread. Sorry, I don't mean to toot my own horn. I'm sure others feel the same way about our coaches.

Re: Is Montgomery A Better Coach Than Berube?

Two different styles and I like both. Two different teams and I like both. Under Berube we had an aggressive team with some good goal scorers. With Monty we have a fast team, who does everything fast, and it appears that he wants everyone trying to score. This team doesn't give opponents time to move. The bad guys have to be thinking ahead constantly, because we're already gone.

Similarly, neither of our teams take or took any bull. With this team standing up for each other more. I believe there's more help behind the scenes (assist. coaches etc.) with Monty. I believe Berube liked to handle "more' stuff himself. There's more, and this is just a short take and I agree with a lot of you fella's. But it's close to how I feel generally.
