Make no mistake, Dotel was a HUGE reason the Cards passed the Braves and won the WC in 2011.
2 months, 29 GAMES, 10 GF, 2 saves, 24.2 innings, 32 Ks, 3.28 ERA, 0.851 WHIP
And a HUGE reason the Cards won the WS.
Playoff stats: 12 games, 10.1 innings, 14 Ks, 2.67 ERA, 0.693 WHIP
Also, he was a colorful player who wore his emotions on his sleeve.
RIP. Thank you for your HUGE contribution to the great 2011 run.

Thank you for posting, Ec.
Rest in peace, Senor Dotel.

Re: Octavio Dotel dead. RIP
Agree, Dotel was part of the bullpen that had a great postseason in 2011, especially in the NLCS against the Brewers.
Thank you, Octavio.
Thank you, Octavio.

Agree 100% with this, huge impact on the postseason. Ironically, another person who impacted the 2011 WS outcome (Nelson Cruz) lost his sister in the same tragedy. Re: Octavio Dotel dead. RIP
Thanks, but that is not an OP officially announcing his death and honoring him.
I came back online at 7pm knowing Dotel died. The post that you shared was at the bottom of page 1. No good.
This OP is honoring Dotel and a place for CTers to give their respect.
I know you posted with good intentions.
Thank you
Re: Octavio Dotel dead. RIP
Yeah I mean I know that thread has a misleading title but it was part of the story as there was some confusion for several hours before confirmation came in. It did morph into honoring him but I agree it would be better to do it here where it is more clear.ecleme22 wrote: ↑08 Apr 2025 21:52 pmThanks, but that is not an OP officially announcing his death and honoring him.

Just thought if this thread goes on and we let that one drop, it would be good to connect the two.

Re: Octavio Dotel dead. RIP
Let's not lose sight of the magnitude of this tragedy, with more than 200 killed, not just a former ballplayer. However, this is the baseball forum, not Current Affairs, so here's a wonderful remembrance of Dotel: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/626537 ... -reliever/
Re: Octavio Dotel dead. RIP
What I remember about Dotel is that, for some reason, Ryan Braun could not hit him with a paddle. The numbers were crazy. That alone was worth the trade.
