Hopefully nothing with an ACL. If it makes anyone feel any better, I'm in my early 40's and love running down the several floors of stairs in my downtown building. One bad step a few weeks ago and I could barely put weight on that thing for a day, but 48 hours later was almost back to normal.

So, see, he'll be fine. lol
Left knee inflammation. Ugh. The question is what underlying injury caused it. I half tore an ACL and it swelled like a balloon, but no surgery. I hope that's the worst case for Herrera.

You still have to run as a DH tho……

He needs to just come back 100%. The kid can take and might be a centerpiece in the lineup. Let’s not rush him back in a year that the FO already mailed in before it began

Cardinals only have 2 catchers on the 40 man plus Contreras.

Loutos or OBrien could be waivered and not missed. After today Fernandez could probably pass waivers and not get claimed.

If we were like the 2016 Cubs he could pull a Schwarber and return as a DH. But this team isn't the '16 Cubs. If it is an ACL see him in '26.

Meniscus impingement or tear?
We shall see.
Common issue with catchers.
Not as serious as an ACL or MCL.

At least until the inflammation goes down.

Just hope it's not an MCL or ACL.
I bet it is one of those
Nope

"Oliver Marmol said initial testing came back clean and Herrera’s knee was structurally sound. But he added the inflammation will require a stint on the injured list". cbssports

So we already have the question if Herrera can ever become good enough defensively as a C, and now he appears to have knee concerns.
There's little doubt being a C can be hard on the knees. If they keep Herrera there, it's not a stretch to wonder if more knee issues will develop.
Cards also have promising C prospects in the farm, and Pages is decent as a backup C.
So should the Cards install Herrera as the main DH guy? Wouldn't he be an upgrade over Burleson as the main DH?
We had some of these questions before this knee issues popped up. Now what?
How far away is Crooks and/or Bernal? Looking it up, Crooks est. ETA is 2025. Bernal's is 2026.
Crooks is our rated #4 prospect, one ahead of Saggese. Bernal is our #7 prospect, with Rodriguez right behind him although his ETA isn't till 2029.

Speaking of Burleson, he made a lazy attempt on the ball that got pass him at 1B, trying to just swipe at it instead of bending down to get his glove down. He also wasn't running hard on his "double" the LF'er badly misplayed, instead apparently anticipating a fly out or foul ball.
