36 runs given up in 3 games. But they don't need any pitching. They're gonna develop it all. LOL This is what we can expect for the whole year.

What's amazing is we are not far from the middle of the pack in many pitching statistics, such as walks, HR's allowed, whip, etc... What this tells me is that when it comes to situations when opposing teams have a chance to score, our toughness and/or coaching is poor at preventing runs. There are many pitchers that have bad whips, or bad Batting Average against, but their ERA's are ok, because they shift into a different gear to prevent runs. Sometimes we place too much emphasis on statistics and fail to realize there are 10=12 pitches a game that actually win or lose the game. It comes down to who is the better and toughest competitor when it really matters.
Look at the Cardinal Offense last year; we could get runners on and into scoring position, but our hitters never could rise to the level of their competitors during the most important pitches of the game.
This begs another question - are our players being given the best information possible during these situations; things like when pitcher Smith is in this position, he will always use his sweeper off the plate; or when hitter x is facing a velo guy he moves off the plate so we should keep the ball away when he's facing Helsley.
I have no stats to back up what I'm saying but Its something I've believed while watching years of baseball.

The arms are mid-level at best. And the pitch calling is too patterned. You can guarantee an 0-2 count will be followed by a pitch in the dirt. Then a low & outside pitch. Then a pitch up in the zone.

It's not the coaching. It's the talent. You spend money and buy premium talent then that talent shines through most of the time. You buy questionable talent and it performs questionably. Either you dump this guy and bring up someone that may work into a good/great player or you lie to the fans about the minors needing a revamp and claim to be rebuilding (whatever that means). We've seen Mikolas a while now and he's a known quantity. Expecting him to be different is insanity. Just like Fedde and Pallante. They both give up a lot of hits and occasionally a ton of runs. This is not the starting rotation of a contender. Don't even talk about that chit show of a bullpen.Idaho Cards wrote: ↑06 Apr 2025 23:00 pm What's amazing is we are not far from the middle of the pack in many pitching statistics, such as walks, HR's allowed, whip, etc... You can tell hitters have figured it out.
