Three Takeaways From Blues' 5-4 Win Against Avalanche
ST. LOUIS – There are currently five St. Louis Blues players who were part of the longest winning streak in franchise history in 2019.
Jordan Binnington, Brayden Schenn, Oskar Sundqvist, Robert Thomas and Colton Parayko (injured) can now stake claim to a second historical streak.
The Blues set a new benchmark with their 12th straight win when they held off the Colorado Avalanche, 5-4 at Enterprise on Saturday.
For all the talk about this current Blues team not being able to put together a three-game winning streak as late as January, right now, they can’t seem to lose a game no matter how what the score is.

I’ve got one major take away and it’s that this team better start learning how to play with a lead to close out games and stop giving up 6-5 goals.
I’d love to see NHL 6-5 goals given up stats. I tried looking last night, but couldn’t find anything. There’s no doubt we lead the league in that stat.

Did some digging, looks like we've scored 7 times this year in empty net situations and have been scored on 11 times

That’s a lot if 6-5 goals to give up. I wonder how many times we’ve played 6 on 5 to figure out the percentage of goals given up with the other net empty.MizTruBlueLuvzU wrote: ↑06 Apr 2025 19:51 pm Did some digging, looks like we've scored 7 times this year in empty net situations and have been scored on 11 times
The late goals given up is really the only complaint I’ve got about the team lately. It’s been a great ride, but sooner or later the well runs dry on late goals coming back to bite you.

Parayko being out doesnt help the late game lead situations.
That being said 13 wins in a row so cant complain too much.

They just have to stop having leads late in games - that'll fix itMizTruBlueLuvzU wrote: ↑06 Apr 2025 19:51 pm Did some digging, looks like we've scored 7 times this year in empty net situations and have been scored on 11 times

Did you happen to check out how that compares to the rest of the league? Or if you have a link I could do so myself that would be swell.MizTruBlueLuvzU wrote: ↑06 Apr 2025 19:51 pm Did some digging, looks like we've scored 7 times this year in empty net situations and have been scored on 11 times
Feels like that would be one of the worst ratios in the NHL. I'd think you should be outscoring the oppo at rate of at least 3:2 if they've got an empty net.
The fact Blues are being outscored almost 2:1 ... bad juju.

It's hard to complain about this team right now.
But a couple takeaway from yesterday game has me somewhat worried.
One was...The Turtle.
And Two. Starting the turtle in the second.
First of all. The turtle doesn't make sense. I've heard, the best defense is a strong offense. Our Relentless forecheck is how we usually take leads and beat team. So to stay four back and commit to playing defense for any part of a game, is thinking wrong.
I'd hope it's not being coached to go into a turtle. But with the coach changing up the lines towards a games end. Even if it's not part of the plan. Its self-fulfilling with the changes.
Lastly. I'm sure many will see it different. But there's nothing about Bolducs game, or our league standings, that would of kept him off the ice during the last minute of the game, to go for his first hat trick. I've never seen that on any team or with any player before?

Leddy losing his edge and the first goal being scored like that completely changed the momentum in the game and the blues just couldn't get it back.Cahokanut wrote: ↑07 Apr 2025 15:38 pm It's hard to complain about this team right now.

Losing an edge happens, just sucks that it happened when it did and happened in the way that it did.
Re: Three Takeaways From Blues' 5-4 Win Against Avalanche
Look at the whole play. Leddy missed a pass that came to him at the point just seconds esrlier. Thats what forced him to retreat back and then he lost an edge.
He seem to miss a lot of passes that he doesn't even get a stick on.
Wonder if he needs his eyes checked??

Unfortunately Ray Charles could see it ending this way.KarmaFTMFW wrote: ↑06 Apr 2025 19:21 pm I’ve got one major take away and it’s that this team better start learning how to play with a lead to close out games and stop giving up 6-5 goals.
